D40 - Tamron 18-200

Is this lens any good a D40 used wanting to get into zoom photography, Animal close ups etc etc.

For animal close ups etc you will probably want more than 200, sigma do a 70-300 APO that with AF with the D40, the trouble is neither have any image stabilizer, which is not a big deal in good light or with a tripod.

The Nikon 70-300 VR has good reviews but is twice the price.

If you do feel 200mm is enough, the 55-200 VR from Nikon is excellent value for money.
