Hi guys,

Been a LONG time since I've posted on here...maybe 4 years!

Boring post, but I've just been offered a new job which will require a 90mile daily commute and I will have less access to overnight development cars. Therefore my M5 which runs at best 22mpg average is going to be painfull. I currently get 350miles to £105 of fuel (gentle driving), so I'd be looking at £150/week!

So... what realistically can I expect to get out of £1000's worth of 1.5dci? Any other suggestions?

Cheers,
Phil

PS - the M5 is an absolute beast, I can't reccomend a 4.9 V8 coupled to a 6-speed manual enough :)

Focus 1.6 does 40+Mpg, servicing costs about £20 if done yourself and appear to run forever.

A £1000 clio dci will cause you grief.

Buy a small engined petrol car. For £1000 you can buy a pretty reliable steed.

you must get 50mpg plus.... my 172 returns me 33-35 mpg on back roads and i run 35 miles each way to work every day.....

I average 33mpg in the 172 which is 1000mikes a month motorway and 1000miles a month short journeys. Longer runs on motorway I get early 40s mpg, if staying at legal revs ;-)

my mk2 DCi100 would do 65mpg on the motorway no problem, my mk2 DCi65 would do 70mpg no problem and my MK3 DCi106 would do 60mpg no problem, and that was cruising at 80mph, overtaking etc not driving at truck speeds trying to see how high I could get the mpg, if I done that it would do 90's!! or atleast the 65 would.

but as Daniel said I wouldn't be wanting a £1000 one, I was lucky I paid £1800 for my 65 and done 20k hastle free motoring in it but not sure id want another as too many diesel horror stories. id take a MK3 DCI again though as they are pretty bomb proof! and a bit newer

I dunno whether there's anything wrong with my dci65 but I normally get about 400-450 miles to a fill up, thats start stop rush hour driving. I'd imagine motorway driving it would be much better.
