Damn Those Gatso’s

Just a little story for you all, I was on my way to work this morning and i was travelling along a road where there is a bright yellow Gatso on the right hand side of the road. Evidentaly i pass this quite often when travelling too and from my girlfriends house so i know its there. Anyway i was passing it this morning, it was facing me on the right hand side of the road just as i was passing it at about 40 it flashed!! I nearly sh*t bricks. I have passed this way many times before / so has my girlfriend at different speeds and its never flashed.

I have asked many people if these work when you are travelling toward them, i have been told no because they arent a loud to flash in the drivers eyes, and that they dont work travelling towards them, only past them cause they have to measure your speed * Distance or something??

I have check on the web site about these things and it confirms that the Gatso has to take speed passing the way its facing.

Does anyone have any knowledge of these? or any comments that may help me feel a bit calmer cause im bricking it incase i maybe get a fine!. EEEEKKK.

When it flashes oncoming traffic its because its out of film.

My friendly officer mate informed me of this when I used to pass one that always did this.

Thanks Mike, thats what id been told, aparantly they have crappy radars in them and when they are out of film they just flash away.. was just a bit scarey thinking i would get 3 points!... especially when i have passed that so many times.

Just though i would start a conversation cause im at work and im completely bored... happened to me on the way to work this morning and its been on my mind.

I would like to re-code the software for Gatsos, i would make it take photos of all Police Cars and exagerate the speed +40. Get all them banned so all Police have to use Raleigh Grifters or Choppers! HAHA remember them!!

I would buy it and put one along my street, get some right little nutters bouncing of the speed bumps anlong my street... love to get a hold of one.

Wouldnt mind but there are loads of kids round where i am.

Oh and one more question if anyone knows this, how long does it take to get notification to you if you get caught off one of those mobile speed cameras in the vans????

They are bringing back the Chopper but some European regulation means they cant have the centre gearstick. How sh1t is that?

Gutted. I was hoping they were going to just add one more gear and add Disc Brakes!

The government are such t**sers, they charge us Tax payers for speeding, then the insurance companies find out and stiff us as well, then we get told we can have things like de-cat pipes, and sh*t like that...

They have 14 to serve you notice of prosicution only way is if they couldnt find your details through fault of your own ie if your log book had been filled out wrong, also as for gatsos as above can only get u from the rear as they need the markings on the road to measure the speed, the one camera that flashes at u is the truvello which flashes redish as not to blind u

yeah but i was told with the mobile cameras / van cameras that you would get notified earlier than that????

I believe this is the case for the Gatsos cause they only get emptied every so often....

Thats for taking a photo of someone overtaking in the other lane i think. Cause this one has lines on both sides but think thats what theyre for...

it has line on both sides as they generally spin round and get traffic either way dependant on time of day ie in rush hours will get traffic going into work then traffic going home etc, yes u can get notified earlier but they have up to 14days to notify you

There was no other car going the other way that i seen.

I was told that with a Gatso you had to be going at least 11Mph over the speed limit before the Radar was triggerd? This way they have you incase you say that your large alloys adjusted the accuracy...

h3lter, i cant see how they can do someone on the other side of the road going past the camera facing you cause they use the lines in the road to justify your speed between 2 shots. How can it do this going towards cause it wouldnt have the correct calibration. Im only hoping this is true cause i dont want a ticket... I was only doing at the V most 40.

Gatsos ive read flash once if they have no film but twice if they do does that help. Not that im surgesting illegal behavior but if i were you and perhaps i had a friend who lent me his range rover and i happened to accidently tie a chain round it at night with fake plates on and drive off without noticing it trailing behing me and drop it off somewhere where it may ignite and rot in hell i might just get away with the ticket. chances are id get caught with the fake plates on a car that wasnt mine in the process. Actually f**k it when you get fined you can either pay 60 quid and take 3 points or 80 and go on an advance driving tuition and get away with it. Might also lower ur insurance.

there are loads of cameras around the west mids with lines on both sides of the road, the cameras dont spin round or anything, just fixed, in fact my bro has a nice photo of the front of his car from one of these! tis right though, they dont half blind ya when they go off in ya face!

Yeah your ok, the same thing happened to me about 2 months ago, at 4am, saw the camera on totherside of the road, and sped up and the thing flashed me.

The lines on the other side of the road are really a scare tactic. Some people have been reported to be belting down a road, spot the camera and then drive on the other side of the road (towards oncoming traffic!) in order to avoid detection, these lines help to more accurately guage their speed in this instance.

Gatsos take pics from behind; Truvelos take pics from infront (but can do both sides of a road due to being set off by strips in the road), Specs calculate average speed over a set distance.

Well Lunner im glad it happened to someone else cause i was a bit stunned to say the least! just glad it wasnt dark cause i would have crashed, was like a stunned bunny rabbit!!!
