Dangerous with the rear seats out??

  Ph1
A while back when i took the rear seats out of my 172 i noticed that it was rather twitchy especially under braking. Didnt feel that safe tbh

Im in a position now that i wont be needing the rear seats of the Clio and as ive modded the car as far as i can go without resorting to forced induction, stripping it out would be the next natural 'performance' choice and im kinda thinking about it.

Did anyone else notice their Clio to be a bit lively when it was stripped and is it something that you can live with on a day to day basis or do you always have to be on your gaurd so to speak?

cheers

Mine feels a little twitchier but i intend to adjust the damping rate to suit. And i wouldnt call it dangerous, i think its more fun, just adapt your driving.

Get some weight in the back move the battery back there and the washer bottle if you feel brave but yep it will be a bit more twitchey.

My rears have been lower and i havent really noticed any difference, my fronts were 32 and rear 29 and it feels the same as 32 all round. So now i run 32/33 all round.

Lol, i tend to get lift off oversteer and a bit of understeer if anything when hammering it on my favourite roads, its a balancing act between the two, ill check how much tread i have left as these p6000's i have are pretty crap. when turning in under load i can feel the tyres flex (hate 185,55) and its a progressive 'go' not like a snap on semis so it can be harder to judge how much further you can push it, if like me you prefer a snap to progressive loss of control. as you push more it feels like loss of grip and you go straight rather than round the corner and as you ease off the back end comes round so; its turn in and gamble as to how much the arse can come round. what tyres are you runnning? i used to have some yoko semis which were amazing, not sure i could handle them in the wet though, but the p6000's have to go soon.

From point to point blasts and hard on the brakes is when i found it kinda dangerous come scary lol

Think it caught me a bit off gaurd. This was a while back tho

Good pointers there on the tyre pressures at the rear. Not sure if that would help under hard braking but worth a try

I stripped 45kg of stuff out of my clio once (all from the back) and it didn't make any noticeable difference in straight line speed. Car just rattled more than normal and it was louder. But yes, the back end wasn't too clever in the corners, definately had a (negative) effect on cornering ability.

Yeah, I made my Clio handle real well. I put a load of concreate pavers in the back. That made the rear end stick to the ground. More weight, that's what makes are car handle better. Right?

BTW, will it change the front rear weight ratio?

If you take weight out from the back only then yes, course it'll change the front/rear ratio. Hence why the car doesn't handle so well when you strip out the back; heavy front end + light rear = not good.

doesnt handle so well? sinse when

What? Taking weight out of the BACK ONLY upsets the balance of the car (which has a twitchy back end anyway), therefore making the handling worse. What's so hard to understand? :S

bit of a brash comment....mine is stripped, on H&R, and running 26PSI at the rear, and doesnt twitch, it handles 10 times better than standard.

Well obviously adjusting the suspension and tyres to compensate is going to help. I'm talking about stripping a standard car.

When we stripped my mates EG civic Esi, the back end started to snap out during cornering. He even managed to spin it a couple of times! :S

Was so noisy with stripped out back (especially when it rained!) so i dont think i'll be stripping the 182 anytime soon.

Regards the tyre pressures, i've always run the same front/rear. Mite try experimenting will diff pressures now. :)

I run 26 at the rear and 30 at the front for road driving
