dangers in lowering?

  Monaco Blue 172
is there any danger in lowering your car just on springs?

heard storys about when u jack the car up / go over so say a jump the spring falling out? where the shocks are not the same size?

but i also have friends that just lower there cars on springs and its fine.

anyone know any facts about this? or have most of you done the same?

If the rear damper on a clio fell out - you would notice it first! then if you literally jumped the car, a spring could potentially fall out.

Yes lowering a car is perfectly safe, however if you go so low that the wheels rub the arches a lot, then obviously a blowout may start to become an issue

Some on here say you can go -55/60 mm on standard shocks, any lower & you'll need a proper set up. Don't quote me on that though.

in theory if you get stupid low springs like 50+ then the tavel of the wheel when you jack it up would (could) course the spring to drop out, but thats when people fix in new or modified drop stops in to prevent the travel of the wheel when on 3 wheels or just jacked,

but most of the time there isnt enough drop in the wheel to let a adverage spring like 10-30mm fall out,

i would be more worried about catching other parts of the car on things like speed bumps and curbs, downpipes and bumpers and in extream cases the foot wells can scrape and incure damage from obsticals and debris from driving

Mines a 60mm drop. No major problems yet but i was recommended to get a new set of shocks just in case

so if you went for 40mm lowering springs on standard shocks, you shouldnt have any issues - apart from obv your suspension wearing out alot quicker, but as i mean, in a mot or tyre change etc... the spring being loose due to it not having enough height to stay in position when the wheel is droped.

just thought ide BUMP this up for people who are asking this question
