I think its supposed to be quite dim until you turn your sidelights on?

Although, it might be the other way round.... cant think off the top of my head

I have tried that, and its still really dim :/ could it be the lights at the back?

One of the bulbs has probably blown, I know when I did my dash conversion that was the case with mine. Not sure what type they are but easy to replace once the dash is off

I recently got my Clio on Monday and have also noticed the lights are very dim, none of the bulbs look out its just very dull. I have it on the brightest setting on the adjuster too.

When you post a picture I'll compare it to mine. There is a guide in the guides section to remove the dash - but you have to become a full member to view it (£10).

from recent (similar) experience -

take the top of the dash off:
- pull off the two coloured trim strips and the top of the steering column shroud
- remove the 6 screws now exposed
- remove 3 screws from screen demister channel
- remove plastic screw/clip from either end of dash
- pull dash free from clips (pull towards you) and remove

check the two bulbs in the bulb holders in the back of the clock
