Dash Lights Colour

Is there any way of changing this in me Valver. I was thinking either coloured bulbs or a transparent coloured film, removing the orange lens jobbies.

Anyone ever tried this?

You can do it.. as long as you get rid of the standard orange lense.

Then you can change it with clear and use diff coloured bulbs, or change the lense.

Can you buy replacement lenses or do you just use coloured film?

And where can I get coloured bulbs from? I want VAG orange/red really.

Im plannin to change my bulbs this weekend so it all lights up red. Im just gunna get red bulbs as you wont have to change the orange plastic then!

Where you getting the bulbs from fella. Thing is I have bulbs out that I was going to change this w/e so may as well do this at the same time.

Do the dash bulbs come out of those plastic holders or not?

So wheres 1.8_16v_Clio getting his bulbs from, or would LEDs be brighter?

The guy on that site above will retro fit the LEDs of choice in to the holders for you. If theyre brighter than bulbs then Im gonna get the LEDs.

Half the reason for changing is I want BRIGHT red like in my g/fs Ibiza.

The main illumination bulbs are the same as the sidelight bulbs.. just the slide in things.

£8 is cheap for 10.. I paid £1.99 for 2..

... are the ones I had.. 6 of them on the main cluster.. which are the main illumination ones.

The ones Ive been given as spares are in plastic holders though.

They just push into the holders..

I just replaced the bulbs I already had.. but because I left the Orange Filter in.. it turned out dirty green/brown.. so I put them back. Hehe.

Wonder how hard it is.. to keep standard dials but just change the filter?

What bulb colour did you try. Red should be ok. Blue would turn it brown I thik (trying to remember my art days)

Trouble is, I reckon the lens is needed to disperse the light across the whole panel.

BTW, How dyou get the bulbs out of the holders?

Pull them.. they just slide in/out.. (As I remember).

I was gunna try Red.. but my original idea, still appeals.. hehe.

Blue Rev counter.. fading to red when heading towards red line..

Same for Petrol..

And Speedo all Blue..

In that case, I need a blue filter and a red filter.. and normal bulbs.

Might try and take my dials apart again and have a look - theyve been apart so many times what with the rev counter conversion to get that working!

Some of the bulbs are stuck into the holders and the whole unit needs replacing,
Make sure you replace it with one which allows you to remove the bulb so its easier come next time.

Im just gettin these red LED type bulbs from a mate. Its like the slide in bulb made up of four LEDs, two white and two red.

Not familiar with these. Are they a bit like the wide angle ones on that web site above?

Are LEDs brighter? Another option would be Humrol paint the lens to red.

Yeah i just had a look. Theyre just like em really and should work a treat!

LEDs are brighter but the main reason im using them is they give you a much better colour.

From what I can see theres several options. Coloured bulbs being the obvious one, but the orange lens will affect the colour. You can get sheets of disco lighting coloured gel from Maplin also (replacing the lens)

What about Humbrol painting the lens?
