Dash Lights!

  Astra Twintop
Bit of a odd question this...

i bumped my car a month or so ago, causing my airbag in the drivers seat to go off.

car has been since repaired, and now permanently has the "SERV" and "AIRBAG" lights on.

if i was to replace the seat in question, would the airbag light go off? and i guess id have to get a garage to flick the serv light off?

anyone shed anymore light on this?

Serv and Airbag light wont go off no, this is an issue that can be fixed one of two ways...

Either buy a new airbag computer, at considerable cost (£1000 all in seems to spring to mind), or...

There is apparently a service offered on ebay Germany that will reset your current airbag computer for around £60. It's a mailorder service I believe so will involve you removing it and sending it off.

The airbag computer is underneath the can holder in the centre console, to clear the airbag and serv light you need to replace the seat in which the airbag/pretensioner has fired. Then you need to search ebay for "airbag reset" pay your £60 and send the airbag computer away to have the memory cleared on it.

Or you can pay about £400 for a new airbag computer from renault, you can't just pilliage one out of another car as there are coded to the individual car.

You shouldn't really still be using the seat as the airbag detonation deforms and weakens the seat frame, and obviosly as the pretensioner has fired it shouldn't let you put a seatbelt buckle in it anyway.
