Dash warning light??

  Clio 182
Need some help guys ... I drive a Clio 182 and whilst driving the car today this light randomly appeared on the dash and hasnt gone away. Any thought on what this could be?

I did think it may be AFM playing up but not sure ...

Any help/advice welcome ... car has low mileage.

Engine management light. Mine came on a couple of weeks ago, got it on a diagnostic check and its not came on since. (apart from when starting the engine)

Mine did this tonight too when driving through town as normal, came on "flashing"

Pulled over, turned off. Got out & checked everything. Got back in & restarted and it was gone :S

errr What The Feck?

emissions warning light. read your manuals lol.

Flashes with a temporary high reading, stays on for 120miles with a logged reading IIRC. It'll got off again.

OP - decat? blowing exhaust? remap and running poverty spec fuel? could all cause the light to come on.

Mine came on and I popped it on my pals diagnostic machine and it said the o2 sensor had gone...changed it and alls fine since.

it is best to put it on a diagnostic as there is 2 sensors..1 before and 1 after the CAT...or it could be something totally different.
they arnt to expensive though..about £40ish iirc.

Will the fault reader tell which sensor is needed (if it is that)
Also, does the warning light need to be on when you plug the fault reader in?
It hasn't come up since, and I have MOT next week lol

No, if the light came on at all the ECU should of stored a code. You'll need to plug in the code reader, turn on the ignition and read the code. As for which sensor it is that depends on the car and code reader. If its pre 2001 then the chances are reduced unless you have a reader like the Autel Fr704 which is designed to work with Renaults pre OBD2/EOBD. If its after 2001 then the reader should be able to work it out from the fault code which will be between codes P0130 to P0167. These relate to faults like O2B1S1 or O2B2S1, which in English are O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 and O2 sensor bank 2 sensor 1. Bank 1 generally referes to the sensor before the cat and bank 2 after the cat.

Sorry just saw u said you had a 182 so yes most if not all FCR's should tell you which sensor it is. assuming it is an O2 sensor obviously.

have you managed to find what the problem was? mine does it on and off. it will flashthen the manual says to slow down, you do and itgoes off, but sometimes it stays on until the next day, and then sometimes for a week. the worst was when it came on and stayed on the moring we were driving to cornwall. so i put a piece of blutack over the light as i was driving it put me on edge but it got us there drove all week around on holiday and all the way back bout 800 miles and was fine! :) it says its a toxic fume light in the manual?

Mine hasn't come on since, and I passed the MOT today :)

Was told by a reliable mechanic that sometimes it can come on in any car if the engine is running too lean, or the mix is outside the computer's parameters so it flashes up a warning light. Not his exact words but something along those lines lol

Mine came on this morning, so did a search on here and came to this thread.

It isn't flashing though. Only had the 36k service a month ago, so going to take it to the Renault specialist in Sheffield (not a dealer) who serviced it, asap.

Hi. My first post. Also my first ever Clio, previously a Golf man.
This light is permanently on for me, could it be because there's a big noisy exhaust fitted? (This was on the car when I purchased it)
Thanks everyone.

More thank likely, especially if it has a Decat.

You need it checked to confirm, but I would expect it's an O2 sensor

Hi all i also have the same light. Was told it was the front lambda sensor. Does anyone have a link to said sensor.. Cheers

Can't find a decent picture...

This is a picture of a car fitted with a Decat but same principal.

Jack car up, look for Cat converter and something similar to the above... If I recall correctly it's a 22mm spanner to remove it.
