dci exhaust

Nope mine bog standard.

I cannot decide what to do. I fancy a chip or tunning box and some suspension work to get some decient handing but the choice is to much for me to undersatnd do I go for the whole suspension setup (I dont need an ajustable setup) or is springs enough or are bushes worth it? A new car isnt realy worth it cos I want something much better and an extra 6K for a Skoda vrs or 4k for a 172 isnt worth it.

What have you got? Just a 172 kit on it?

errr.. Renault have just brought out a ClioMKII 100Bhp TD.. hehe superchip 135-140bhp !!! thats more bhp as a newshape 2.0 TDCI zetec -s (130) Mondeo and that weighs 1535kgs my bro has one and its much quicker than i expected especially in the mid (loads of torque) .. so just take of 400kgs and i can imagine a very fast car in the clio.

...30-70 quicker than 172 ?!

172 has 6.8 (but can do 6.4/6.5 @apush) 200 nm s torque

Mondeo 330 Nms ... so like i say take off 400kgs for the weight of the clio and 30-70 on that could be sub 5.5 seconds

I think youll only get an extra 20bhp with a chip. Common rail engines dont gain as much as PD engines. A chip for a dci80 only takes you to 103.

ok but @ 123bhp still looking @ 280-290nm torque + i see people talking about superchips but there is so much more.. dump valves intercoolers bigger turbos... etc

The 100hp diesel Clio will get about 120hp I belive. The engine has some strengthened parts I have a list somwhere but its connecting rods etc. The turbo is a bigger one to handle 1.4 bar boost (the normal one 65/80 one will only take 1.15 bar)

Unsuprisingly Renault havnt given the 100 more torque than the 172 so Im guessing its either higher thn claimed ~170lb or that its detunned so more potential gains there. Im guessing the 100 has about 200lb in it but the gearbox will be getting cloe to its limits. Some tunners will get 250lb torque out of it but that will be pushing it to much in my opinion.

The Mondeo gets about 155hp and 290lb torque after a bluefin driving remap but Id be carful of the gearbox the VW 6 speed one is likly to be stronger and it can only handle 300 officialy.

The 80hp clio can only go to 103hp as Im guessing the intercooler is to small (anyone got some pictures of it) and the turbo wont handle more that 1.15 bar anyway. Also the injectors cannot flow much more without more smoke. Still 103hp is a 30% increase which isnt bad at all.

Dump vales by the way are usless performance wise on a diesel as a diesel dont run on the same throttle plate as a petrol. Intercoolers will help decrease intake temps and so more potential increased fueling. Also the turbo could be replaced but the amount of small turbos out there is small and there not cheap. KKK (renamed BorgWarner) makes the Clio turbo and there opening new potential with the turbo but there not many other turbos the engine can take. 1.9 turbos are a little to big and so slow to spin up.

The new Clio diesel turbo is likly to be the KP39 model for increased pressure its max potential will be about the 120hp mark as the turbo however is a bit big . They need to strenght the 65/80hp turbo to get the bigger boosts without making it any bigger.

The 80hp engine should be good for about 115hp with just a bigger intercooler but with bigger injectors and some increased head size to keep the pressure down it should get about 130hp with a stock turbo.

With bigger injectors on the 100 and a big intercooler 150 is possible I belive and with some more work ie exhaust intake custom remap etc, 180 could be hit.

Jeremy has informed me a while back that the 100 also has a variable vane turbo, as on the 1.9 (would it be the same exact turbo or smaller?)

Well Im not 100% sure they may use the 1.9 105hp dci turbo. It would be a good one to use as the 1.9 105 is being replaced by the 1.5 100 so keeping the same turboes would help keep costs down.

Im realy interested in the 65 >101 dci modes can you tell us any more. I take it your running the 80hp map to increase the boost (cos your cooling the air you can run more boost safly). Or have you gone custom.

If your looking for some more mods try and get some bigger injectors msade or your old ones incresed in size and a bigger high pressure fuel pump.

http://www.kermatdi.comhttp://www.kermatdi.com these lot should b able to help you with bigger injectors.

When you say filter I take in you mean an induction kit or the like to allow air more freely to access the engine?

Also what intercooler isthat looks like a of the shelf mod one. Is it of a car though?

Any more pics especially under the engine? I would be interested in finding out where the pipes go round the engine bay as the turbos at the back.

You got 108 according to that scaned prinout didnt you and thats at 20 degress, lower temps should help make more power

It may only be a diesel Rob but its got more power than a 1.2 will very get (for the money spent on it) plus you get free james bond style smoke trails.;)

Just one last question what suspension mods have you done and what do you think of them.

Thanks

lol. the ease of tuneability is appealing but it still will sound like a bag of nails, so ill stick with the 75bhp..though i am impressed dont worry :D

Yep it doresnt sound as good but I have to admit to preser the sound of a diesel to a petrol (factory setup ones anyway)

Big Ian if your reading I got a new dipstick for free from the Renault garage I went to (not my original dealer) said they have had a few break and ordered me a new one in. They had no problemw ith them not being the origianl dealership and I have to admit they seeemed more profeshional. although a 36k service is £218.

I want a 172 now though they had a new one in the showroom in silver. Arr maybe next yr with a different insuracne company.

c**ts i paid 22 quid for a stick because i thought it was m that broke it, but you are the second person i know of that this happened to now!!!! 172 kit is as close as im gonna get mate!! was lookin into those tuning box things recently, bidding on ebay for one at 250 that was suppose to take the car from 65 to 82-3 bhp and with the ik it would prob go to 85-6 bhp then with a cat off who knows??

You should get about 90hp without a sports rear exhaust. Without a cat who knows maybe 1hp the gain will be minimal the 130 VW owners do this and they loose power sometimes.

It’s is a custom map, soon it will have another with a little more revs.

I know but here in Portugal it is hard to find them, I will try to see the ones you mentioned, another option is to use the ones in the dCi80 or dCi100 model

Air more freely, I don´t like much induction kits. The only I would give money is a BMC CDa but it is hard to make a proper induction in this engine

It’s was made for this car. It was developed by a company that prepares competition cars for the national championship here in Portugal.

The map is not from my car, it is from a dCi80 only with remaping made by a rival company.

In the suspension I have a custom KW V3 front shocks totally adjustable, in the rear I have KW V2, I have Powerflex bushs and sway bar front and rear, I still have some other mods. I like the handling of the car, much quicker in corners
