DCi Starting problems, HELP!

Recently purchaed 2002 Clio 1.5DCi 80ps, when starting from cold the car will fail to start first time then on second or third attempt the car will start but idle around 300rpm for around 5 to 10 seconds running really rough, the accelerator has no influence, then it will clear and rev up to 1000rpm and be fine and the accelerator will work. The glow plug light comes on and goes off as usual. No problems with it when driving and no warning lights. Checked glow plugs, they are fine, checked 12v feed to plugs, thats fine, checked battery, thats fine. I cant think of anything else, please help. When car is warm it will start fine.

idle control valve? have you also had the injectors looked at?

I thought about those but if it is the idle control valve surely it would continue to idle poorly rather than just the first few seconds and if it is the injectors I would have problems with power loss when Im driving which I dont. Thanx for the input.

Any fuel leaks under the bonnet? Paying close attention to the fuel filter area and pipes around it?

unless then it may be a problem with the fuel pump. you could check the fuel filter for any metal filings. these equal knackered/ close to knackered pump
