DCI turbo

Hey hope this is the right section havnt been on here for a while!

I brought a renault kangoo dci70+ van 2003 03 60000 miles a couple of months ago had a full service cambelt waterpump when i got it!

I was driving it the other day and lost power the turbo is not coming in and when i put my foot down i can hear a loud noise like air is being pushed out!

So i was wondering what turbo i could replace it with? dci 80bhp? does anyone know the part num for dci70 turbo?

If you can hear air being pushed about, check all the boost pipes are on.

ive had a quick look cant see any pipes loose! its been chucking out blue puffs of smoke when you start it and then it seems to stop when your driving then when in traffic it smokes again when pulling off!

Take the turbo inlet hose off and see if the turbo spins/ excessive shaft play.
Did it scream before finall power loss?

that sounds like a good idea i will try that! no it never but the turbo has been whistling for a while.

You either have a knackered turbo ( although usually when they go the ecu has a hissy fit and makes the dci's roll coal like an old diesel train )

or hose /intercooler damaged.

Check and check again. £300 odd for a new turbo is allot of money's now the first gen k9ks are pritty much like dinosaurs.

The turbo is the same as the clio 65 & 80

will do dont want to waste money, can i put a 80bhp turbo on it?

Yes , has to be a KP35 turbo for a 1.5dci ( it's also used on pug/ford 1.4 hdi/tdci engines but different CHRA housing )

cheap ones on ebay I would avoid. I had a cheap new one... killed it off pritty quick (China crap )
renault are about 300 something + VAT

As stated before 65 70 & 80 are all the same turbo its not the turbo that ups the bhp .

i was looking on ebay and see some from china lol some others are 180+ brand new? too cheap?

Depending how bad yours is ( if it's the turbo at fault )
i would either see if it's cheaper to get it rebuilt by a turbo recon specialist or go Renault.
never chance it with turbos on a diesel , only takes the seals to break and you will destroy the engine.

Anyway, first inspect , buy last!

ok i will check tomorrow im sure its the turbo but as you say better to check, i hope the engine will be ok as my last van (same model) died at 157000 so much hassle made the novice mistake of letting a back street garage fit another engine in that one last time i do that lol thanks for your help

No worries & don't be tempted by those chong cartridges on ebay as they last about a week lol ,would rather have a good second hand unit but it is a gamble

Had a good look tonight after taking off the airbox i found the problem! theres a split in the turbo intercooler pipe! So turbo should be fine but i will get my mecanic to check the turbo anyway! thanks alot for your help guys!!!

Aslong as you haven't gave it hell with it like that, you'll be fine.
Giving it stick with a blown pipe with over heat the turbo bearings.

good point there, ive done X2 25 mile motorway journeys at 70mph then couple of short journeys to work 3 miles each way as im working local for the first time ever I patched her up with some trusty cable ties for now lol the pipes on ebay are in Poland and Lithuania! mite ring Renault tomorrow!

Renault pipes are mega mega expensive, try the scrappers first
