De-cat Insurance

Right

I need to know of an insurance company(s) that will definitly cover me with having a de-cat on - if there are any? - as techinally its like not having an MOT due to buff emissions.

HIC dont insure them, so ill guess ill be catting it soon If I cant find one.

Thankyou

de-cating is illegal. Its like strapping drugs to the underside of your car. well bad analogy but still you get the point. No insurance company can insure an illegal mod. that is unless your car is pre 1994 (correct me if im wrong) because that was when the emmisions and blah blah act came into play.

Andy i suggest you see dogmauls post on de-cats being legal

Im wiht CIS Phill, and my de-cat is declaired, and they dont have a problem wiht it, nor did it increase my premium, i know Liverpool Victoria will be ok wiht it too

cheers

I know de-cats are legal, aslong as ur car passes the emissions test. Will have to get it tested with no cat on.

Lunner - cheers :)

oh, i shall have to have a little gander here. I was under the impression that they were 100% illegal. This makes me very excited now. what are the power increases for a 182? anyone know?

Im insured with Bell Direct and if you declare your after-market exhaust, they have to class it in the exhaust/manifold section. Even though Ive not changed the manifold. Dont know whether all insurance companies do this?

  Pink & Blue 182, JDM DC2

thedoc, strange mine is listed as a "stainless steel exhaust".. lol. Id talk to your insurance company!

I read somewhewre you are looking at 5-10% power increase, but the cat on a 182 is VERY good, so the gains wont be too massive

what can you do? Try explaining its a s/s exhaust and not a manifold to some call centre girl in India that only has a basic understanding of English, nevermind an understanding of a car....

Oh well, at least Ive declared it... I didnt always use to....
