de-locking

right, with my renault 19 i have a slight problem, i have no keys, all the doors are unlocked which means i still have access to the car, but cannot lock it frmo the outside (cant open petrol filler cap yet)

just wondering how much work is involved in de-locking the doors and boot, and what work is involved wiring up a solenoid to open the doors and boot lid???

i will be buying a new ignition barrel and petrol filler cap, but need to know wether or not to buy the other locks too

all help appreciated

IIRC de-locking is quite a difficult job!!

Dont ya have to try to weld plates on the inside of your doors!! I got a quote on getting my escort done n it was £450 + VAT!!

if u delock boot remove the wiper 2 and u can use it 2 open the boot, its described in the max power/hanes clio moddin guide.

you can take the lock out and replace it with a flush bolt. so from the outside it will look like just a small metal disc where the lock was. that is way cheaper than getting it welded and smoothed etc.

bam bam its not hard at all mate

if your a little handy(i think you are with you motors?)

basically cut a thin piece of tin, remove the locks put the tin behind the door skin with door card off

weld over it slowly and on very low (so you dont distort or burn the thin car)

then grind welds down allpy filler go down gradeds till it looks correct then and make sure its all smooth check for any chip marks and apply a bit more filler then primer it let a pro paint it tho

boot is just the same but wire i solenoid in which can be got from maplin electronics for 7 quid and wire it 2 the wiper

piece of piss

sounds like a lot just get the tools and youl be done in no time

no need to do that m8, u can get a replacement key.

There will be a number on the ignition, if u take the ignition or number to a renault dealer they will be able to order u a replacement key from that number. This will be cheaper then replacing the filler cap and ignition. Think it costs about £20ish, then u can take that to ahrdware store and get a replacement key cut for about £4.50.

Ive got my boot de-locked & de-badged on my 19. A Clifford heavy duty solenoid was used & is working off my Ai606 aux output. A plate was welded over the boot & filled with fibre glass.

If you want any pics just ask

i delocked my mates car and i used one of those universal door locking kits so i could remotly open the door.attached one of the solenoids to the interior door handle rod.

lunner - problem qwith that is the car i have does not have an ignition, was used for spares for a short period of time, and the ignition was used in the other car

all work will be done by myself and a maes dad who is a bodyshop technician with renault, but hes not sure on the processes as the work he does is all standard replacement

the idea is that i buy a new ignition and petrol filler cap (or find some in a scrappy - unlikely), then delock the doors and boot to essentially save money on parts as the delocking wont cost a penny

still a little bemused though, not sure if the 19 has central locking, if not, it could become a bit of an issue

From Haynes Clio modding guide: - Sand down around the edges of the hole to get then ready for welding. Put a piece of cardboard inside the door and mark out the shape of the hole on it, then use this to make a metal plug that will fit to the hole. Weld this in. Grind the welds down with a grinder, then fill over the dish left by grinding. If u need it i can scan pics in from book (might have to check with moderators regarding copyright). If not i could PM then u.

I know a gimp who delocked his Clio with filler and fibreglass! Didnt weld it, started to crack after a while! big big muppet!lol

My mate super glued an old 1penny on the inside of his Fiesta then filled and sanded it and it still looks good 8 months on!!

Just a cheap alternative!!

Any clio/19 ignition barrel will do mate!! I replaced my valver ignition barrel 3 weeks ago with a clio 1.9d ignition barrel!!

if its got the black infared plip reciever in the interior light trim then its got central locking.has it got a central locking button on the dashboard or centre console?weld the blanking plate on the inside if poss and then underseal it.smooth the door off on the outside with filler.

its quite a lot of work, even if youre prepared to do most of the work yourself. presuming you get a bodyshop to paint it they will want to sray the doors, as well as front and rear wings to get an exact colour match, lot of work, but having said that, looks much better and has masses of practicalty, good luck, go for it!!
