Right bear with me.
I've been running my old 1.7 with 640mb RAM for a couple of years. It's never skipped a beat but it is getting a little slow. A mate had a few old bits and pieces lying about from a 2.8 with 512 DDR so he passed them my way.
Anyway, I started by removing my motherboard and ancillaries, I fitted the new motherboard and hooked up my HDD's etc. When I turned the 2.8 on, everything fired up but there was no image getting through to the monitor. I checked and swapped cables, no issues there. After messing about for 30 min's I thought balls to it and put mine back together.
I got mine all back up and running, running through the log in and onto the desktop, then I thought why not try the 2.8 processor on my board.
I fitted the 2.8, it powered up, I logged in then I got a blue screen of death. I refitted my 1.7, it logged in etc. As it was loading up, I stood the machine upright again and began fitting the side panel. As I did this, the screen went blank again, as it did on the 2.8 initially. The hard drives only spin when you disconnect the IDE from the board.
I then checked every connection but to no avail. I left it over night but now the board won't even power up, even with a different power supply.
I am very confused. I remember Phill (he gave me the 2.8) saying he tried swapping the processor with this 2.8 and it gave him a BSOD but he sorted it after a while.
Could this processor have fried my mobo or is something else at work here?
