Dead TomTom 510

Anyone else had problems?? I couldnt turn it on Saturday night, then it finally turned on and wouldnt turn off at all, was on all night just stuck on the opening pic... reset didnt work, on/off button does nothing. I'm going to send it back but just wondered if anyone else had encountered similar?

I had a similar problem when I downloaded a dodgy POI onto the card.

The quickest way to sort it out is to restore the BACKUP you made of the card. Please tell me you did??

If it gets stuck on the startup screen, it trying to load whats on the card. So refresh whats on the card...

Er, I have a hazy memory of what I did when I first got it, I think I attempted to do something with a backup but the TomTom software constantly crashed on the Mac so I can't remember if I was ever successful as I just gave up with it...

How do I refresh what's on the card?? Do I plug the TomTom into the Mac and then ...? :S

i did have a similar problem after i updated mine for the first time..

but pushing the little reset button solved it for me....cos that button basically cuts the power to the battery hence nearly always working

I've done the manual reset, i've tried charging it and have removed the card - done all these more than once! didn't realise there was a removeable battery, hadn't noticed there was anywhere to open to get one out??

plug it in remove the memory card and hold the reset button in for 3seconds, the light should flash..if it doesnt press it again. then start it up without the memory card in, when it asks for the card then place it in....i take it you know where the reset button is?

Yep I've had to use the reset button loads already!

Managed to get it going again though. You cant have had it that long Karen, just take it back and get a replacement!

f**k it's come on!! Well it did for a couple of seconds, put the card back in and it's gone off again :S

My ex is lending me his to get me to Cadwell next week though!

I took mine back to Staples after about 6months, speaker broke (tomtom1) They just swapped it straight over no problem!

Did you get it from a shop or online?

I got it online from satnav4u I think it was - thing is after I tried the sequence above ^^ it came on, went off and a bit later I got it to come on again and it stayed on and was working!!! - so not sure if it's ok or not now :S Bit like the Mac, I don't have much confidence in it now...

Sounds like the corrupt SD card issue I had.

Was going to have a go at resolving it myself but played dumb and got a replacement tomtom Go classic from Comet in the end.

Nothing ever seems to work properly these days, f***s me right off all this faffing about with stuff.

Not sure if I kept the box or not either...

not worked with sat navs for a while now though but with the 510 do you not get the maps etc on the dvd you get when you buy it to just re format the SD card? but yeah you have a years guarentee with TomTom so i'd get in touch with those.

They'll diagniose it for you and tell you want to do, after the 1month of owning though it usually gets sent off to be repaired with TomTom.

they'll arrange a courier to collect it from you and should usually be 5working days till you get it back!

I even tried shaking it but nothing, totally dead.

when we have a knackard tomtom at work usually reset works a treat or the card is funked, then we have to send it away to the netherlands and get it couried fookin joke they have lost 2 in transit so far!!!get in touch with tomtom!
