182 Trophy, Williams
Hello all!
Had my little 182 for about six months now, absolutely love it, so much I decided it's worth putting all the tiny niggles right as I intend to keep it for a long time. Made a massive snag list and took it to Sutton Park Renault in Coventry, just off the A45. Dealt with a great guy there called Stuart, very helpful throughout. Initially SPRenault were to find the cause of some water ingress into the passenger footwell and sort it out, which they did, and fit a new pump for the windscreen washers. Both of these things were carried out, and after two days labour finding and curing the leak and replacing said parts I was happy enough to part with best part of £300, safe in the knowledge that the job had been done, and done properly.
At the same time as carrying out the work I asked Renault to provide me with a quote for lots of other bits I intend to replace on the car. The quote came to nearly 2K. Almost as much as the car's worth, but rightly or wrongly I love my little 182 and I don't mind spending the pounds to get it absolutely showroom fresh as that's always how I've kept all my cars.
Upon collecting the car from the dealers, quote in hand, smile on face, I noticed on my journey home that the leather gear lever gaiter was dislodged and the plastic clip had been broken. I have no idea why they'd of had to remove it, possibly looking for water ingress, who knows. What I do know, having made a comprehensive snag list only a few days before is that it wasn't broken when I dropped the car off.
When I called, they said "the technician said he had noticed it". Confirming it couldn't of happened on my way home, and I know full well, 200% sure that it wasn't like that when it went in.
Stuart from SPR told me to bring the car right back so they could have a look, which I did. When I got their the Head Of Service (ironically) Debbie, immediately launched into a defensive monologue about how she didn't see how they could of caused the damage and I must be mistaken, etc.
Now, I've just spend £300 with SPR, I have an outstanding quote for nearly £2000 work I want done on the car, and this is an £18 part. Naturally at this point I'm baffled as to the inconceivable idiocy of a woman who thinks it's worth arguing with a customer with a huge quote outstanding over an £18 part, which they'd definitely broken.
Eventually, having asked why she was so willing to take her technicians word over mine and effectively insinuated that I was lying in order to try to fleece them out of £18, she begrudgingly, and I mean begrudgingly, huffed, "fine…we'll fix it then".
Sutton Park Renault aren't going to fix the £18 gear lever gaiter they broke, they're not going to complete the near two thousand pounds worth of work I want done to the car, they're not going to service or MOT my car or any of my future cars, or ever see me again.
With an attitude that poor, I'd rather buy the £18 part from Renault Parts Direct, fit it myself and never have to see Debbie's miserable little face again.
Farewell Sutton Park Renault Coventry, hello Renault Parts Direct and a good indie garage.
