Dealer + Warranty Advice pls

  don't

Ok, picking up a 1996 N reg RSI on Saturday from a dealers about 60 miles away from me,

Car comes with 12 months mot, service, and 3 months parts and labour warranty

Now I don’t trust dealers and 2 b honest I don’t trust any1 really so I don’t wana get the car and sumin go wrong then have the dealer trying 2 get out of fixing it

The car when I saw it needed a new windscreen, driveshaft changing, leccy window button fixin and brakes needed attention, dealer said he’d do all the work and get full mot on it!

Whats best thing 2 do, b4 paying the money 4 the car, get him 2 sign sumin mayb

e.g. me write up a document saying that the car is covered by warranty for any problems with the cars electrics, the gearbox, driveshafts, wheel bearings, cambelt etc

then get the dealer 2 sign it???

just wana try 2 reduce the risk of being screwed over, as im young I don’t wana b taken advantage of

Cheers 4 any suggestions

.Dave.

you should get some king of legally binding warrrenty form when u purchase it, also im suprised a dealer even showed u a car in the condition you mentioned is it really cheap and a good buy? if not id be tempted to buy private and get an aa 12month warenty check thing

Get him to sign a document/reciept that states something similar to:

Sold Clio RSi <Reg No> to <your name> for the sum of <price>

or

Deposit of <amount> paid, on <date> towards Clio RSi <Reg No> by <your name & signature> to <dealer name & signature>

Subject to the following conditions:

- New windscreen, new driveshaft , electric window button fixing and new brakes (be it discs/pads or both).

- 12 months mot.

- Full Service and valet.

3 months parts and labour warranty covering the following:

<Parts to be covered>

All of the above to be Serviced proir to purchase and warranted after purchase by <dealer name> . <dealer signature>

Oh and get a card from them.

Ok cheers 4 that, I will print sumin out and not pay for the car unless he signs it cos overwise its blatently dodgy or has just been cheaply fixed up

I was surprised he allowed me 2 test drive it, was blatently in an illegal state at the time with the brakes.

3 months parts and labour warranty covering the following:

<Parts to be covered, anything relating to driveshafts, wheel bearings, cambelt, electrics, alternator, battery

All of the above to be Serviced and warranted by Oakington car sales free of charge to the customer for 3 months from purchase date.

Signed for on behalf of Oakington Car sales............... Dated..................

how does that look, what else shall i add to the little list there ppl,

I have paid a deposit so far on the car because i have a receipt for that and on the receipt is a list of all the work he was meant 2 b carrying out and paying for b4 i pick i up

cheers

yea i dont wana b another example of a dealer and warranty horror story

I am due to pick it up on saturday, have currently paid £100 deposit

If he refuses to sign it, what do u suggest!!

he mite not wana sign anything and commit himself!

shoulda really sorted all this out b4 i put down deposit but didnt really think about it till now,

he said he would do all repairs on it so i could only knock him down to 1650

so still got remaining 1560 to pay him, so if hes got any sense hell sign it and confirm the sale, otherwise mite b worth walking away cos its bit risky and not worth them sayin u get 3 months warranty if they wont honour it

have heard b4 about places sayin that the warranty doesnt cover things that could b due 2 wear and tear, which means they can try 2 get out of alot of things

Then go look 4 a nice private seller :) few cheaper rsis on autotrader anyway!

HIC wouldnt b happy though, 3rd change of car in 3 weeks :)

ax gt at start of policy, on2 corsa, on2 106, fell through so onto clio

Ill go down there and take the car 4 another drive and check if the works been done and c how the car is and if anythins still wrong with it, if its all sound then ill just get him 2 sign the warranty letter i make up,

if anythin still wrong with it ill try 2 knock money off him, if he refuses 2 go down then i wont buy it anyway cos he aint done what he agreed 2 do.

hopefully everythin will b ok and wont b a problem with signing things,
otherwise things will b thrown and money will b demanded then criminal damage will take place until deposit is refunded :)

then lots of nice pics soon hopefully of a nice new clio 2 the club
