decat on standard exhaust?

well i have a 1.4 8v, i dont want a new exhaust as i cant afford to put it on my insurance, but i wanna get a bit of noise going. can i just decat my standard exhaust?

I did it on my 182, adding a nice rasp and not much louder than standard on mine.
