decat Q's ??

Car  2001 172
People

im looking to get a decat for my 51 plate 172, and am a little confused. I have the option of a friend making me one, or I can prob get one from ebay.

Question I have is......... do I need a decat with 2 holes for the lamba? or just the one?

also, my friend said to me that if i have a 2 hole sensor setup, 1 will be the lamba, and 1 will be a temperature reading sesnor and we can ditch this one and just keep the lamba??

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!! :(

Two on my 2003 172. At least there were two holes in the decat. Presumed the one after the cat checks the cat is working.

As I said before, how many lambdas do you have, 1 or 2... you need this amount of holes?? your mate is wrong they are both lambdas.

Thats what ive been told. Hense why you sometimes get the engine management light on with a decat.

so its simply just check how many wires I have going to the cat, and thats how many holes I need? yeah ?

ok. and it doesnt where in the decat length I situate the sensors no ? (As I assume because its just a length of stainless the readings will be identical anyhow? me thinks I should be expecting a management light to come on)

Some do, some don't. It's a bit of a lottery as to what happens tbh. Doesn't matter where it goes in the decat no but as long as they are somewhere that the lambdas can reach to... i.e dont be making the holes either side the full length of the decat

Buy the decat. Their cheap enough.

You'll end up with fitting hassle unless your very lucky plus you need to build in a recess for the spring / seal kit.

My saxo has 2 lambda sensors 1 before the cat and one after. The one after just needs to read clean air so you can buy a sleeve which screws on to the lambda then you can cable tie it out of the way.

Is this not the same for clios?

recess for spring/seal kit? something else I should know about Andy ?

Where the cat joins the centre section its held in place with a spring kit. To keep a seal but allow for movement in the exhaust set up theres a mesh ring that slots in a recess in the cat flange.

If your mate knocks up a flat type flange, doubt you would get a good seal so could end up with a blowing exhaust plus you'd have a rigid system which would balls up your exhaust mounts potentially. Also would be a bugger to get the correct curve in the cat.

For the hassle and cost its just easier to buy one tbh - just my opinion :)
