there are tricks you can do to pass MOT and i don't mean using another cars exhaust etc.

If you don't notice a difference i suggest you time your self before and after or with a friend. There is really no way it can't make a difference unless something isn't right further up.

How exactly? Had he declared a modified exhaust, I'll bet he hadn't.

Yep, declared all his mods. All cars post 91 (I think!) have to have a cat fitted when built. It doesn't say that it has to remain on the car, but it doesn't say the opposite, so it's a v. grey area. Put it this way, if they refuse to pay out, I think you'd be fighting a losing battle.

No grey area, it has to be fitted by law on the production line but after that there is no physical check as part of an MOT or otherwise. The only stipulation is that the car passes emissions, I agree though that it is highly unlikely it will pass without one though. If the insurer has been told the car has a modified exhaust you have a valid MOT certificate and are paying for a policy with a modified exhaust listed they'd struggle to get out of paying tbh.

Tell the insurance company the truth and declare a decat.

I asked Greenlight and was told they wouldnt insure my car if I fitted one.

mine is fine on the stock exhaust not to loud but with aftermarket i can see your point

Definately - Id say a de-cat will offer more performance benfit than an exhaust system, cheaper too

Insurance - I dont really know to be honest its about at 20 minute job to put back in but yeah it probably does void it as they look for any excuse
