Declaring mods that arent there.

  Megane 225 F1
Silly question i know, but insuring a standard 172 is only £30 cheaper than insuring one that has been lowered and had interior changes. Im going to be doing both of these modifications to the car when i get it any way.

Now the women i spoke to at my insurance company said that it would be cheaper to buy a car with the modifications already because if i decalre them at a later date i will have to pay admin fees (i already have a policy with them and paid admin fees with my current mods to the car).

So would it void the policy by driving the car standard but with modifications decalred?

when i phoned up a couple of days ago, the woman wouldnt let me declare lowering until the springs were actually on the car. But then again it might just be quinn

Can't see why it would.

When I bought my car I told the guy at Sky Insurance what I planned to do to the car when I got it home and had some time to sort it it, he put them on the policy for when it started.

Well if i get a standard one, i plan on lowering it ASAP. Bit of a dilema because i dont want to ask the company and they are the only people that can answer me lol

Well i might just do it an get it lowered asap lol. Could just say owner claimed it was lowered ;)

i declared all mods, i was going to fit on car. But i fitted all parts within 6 weeks of owning it.

Suppose if you crashed they have somet they have a reason to declare insurance void.

I insured mods on the car for when I did them in the future as thats what sky recommended really. If they say it's the way to do it then they can't really not pay out I guess.

Interesting topic. On my previous car and insurance the lad on the phone suggested i declared them all at the start of the policy if i planned on doing them in the near future. I did'nt agree because I was not 100% sure if i would do them. Either way its a bit iffy.

I'm with Greenlight (who dont do things the same as other insurers Ive found, to my benefit)

I told them I planned to fit a splitter and lowering springs during the policy term and they put it on there, but, only way to know for sure (and not invalidate your insurance) is to ask.

I was insured for everything I now have well before and hadn't fitted seats or cage. If you know your definitely having it done then just tell them!

That wouldn't work unfortunately, the insurance company would just say it's your responsibility to make sure everything is legit. Seems mod friendly companies don't mind you adding mods you plan to do in the future and vice versa for the companies who rape you for mods.

I did it. I declared I had chaged rear lights and an exhaust system. I had the lights and got the exhaust about 3 weeks later.

I've declared that my car has a complete body kit installed (genuine ren sport parts) but i've only got the rear bumper on atm and have done for a while.

Been waiting on the bodyshop to get my stuff sprayed for a few months now :(

I've declared mods not on the car at renewal for the last two years. I told them I was planning to do them and they were fine with it.

Oh ok il just ask then then tbh. Seems like most accept adding the mods on policy before they are on the car

Should be fine. Last year with Elephant I declared my coilovers and brakes before I'd bought them. This year I declared my jms induction kit, remap and decat before fitting as well.

I wouldn't advise misleading your insurance company, You need to allow for absolute worst case scenario and think about whether your insurance would use something like this as a 'way out'
