"Defeat" on Alpine headunits - what does it do?

As per title. I've had a google and a read of two user manuals, constantantly mentioned but never explained.

Defeat turns off the internal sound processor. By setting Defeat On, previously adjusted settings of Bass and Treble will return to the factory defaults and BBE is turned off.

Oh right, ignoring user settings is the entire point lol! I was rather hoping it was just a side effect and that it actually did something useful xD
