Delayed registration = abused Cup

I’m waiting for delivery and registration of a new 172 Cup in early October. It was available to me early August, but ive waited until October for insurance reasons.



One thing has got me worried. Where’s my car right now?



I’ve got a horrible feeling that this delay will result in my car being screwed by the dealer’s salesman and mechanics.



What sort of mileage is acceptable to find on a on a new car when I collect it?



Can I reject the car if the mileage is to high?



Am I just paranoid or has anyone else has a problem with this?

I personally wouldnt accept a car with more than 50 miles on it.. even then thats a bit much.

In my opinion i would not accept a new car with more than 10 miles on it! What would be the reason for mileage??

I get paranoid when i leave my car with a garage too.

My clio had 7 miles on it, As stated above I would not want more than 10 or 15 maximum, that gives them plenty for factory testing and on and off transporter driving!

The reason Im so paranoid is because I know a couple of people who work for a local main dealer (Not Renault) but the second anything with a bit of go under the bonnet comes of the transporters they are screwing it down the dual carriage way.

All the garage do is disconect the wire to the gearbox (not very techincal) and run around in the car with garage plates on. I know this from friends who work for peugeot. This means your car might have 1000 miles on it and it only reads 10 miles?

OK, worst case senario:

They have disconnected the wire to the gearbox and they have screwed it for say, 200 miles.

What signs should I look out for that may suggest the car has been driven hard for 200 miles when the clock says 10?

Even more paranoid now!

Mine also had 9 miles, anymore than about 15 and Id want a very detailed explanation of where exactly the mileage came from.

Best thing to do is call them, or go by and look at it, and get a record of what the mileage is now. Specify to them that you want it locked up and left alone until you collect it, and perhaps make them aware that you know what the current mileage is.

Sorry mate,

scuffed outside edge of front tyres, I have no more suggestions. Just make sure you give it a good look over and check for the front splitter, tyre foam (x2), cup badges on side pillars and clear side repeaters (only on 03 cars).

no tread on the front tyres. Honestly wouldnt worry about it, itll probably just sit in their compound. Just make sure you take your time and inspect the car thoroughly before you drive off in it. Id say 10 miles would be my limit to.

Just remembered, if the car has been stood for 3 weeks, it should have that funny copper colour on the front disks. Could be totally wrong but mine got that when I left it at Manchester Airport for 2 weeks.

Dont worry about it too much, theres not a lot anyone can do, and chances are itll only have a few genuine miles on, and have been left alone (ie, no disconnected wires etc).

Are you local to the garage? if so, keep an eye out for it, well, for a Cup with trade plates bombing around, and find excuses to stop in, like take a couple mates at different times to show them the car.

I know what its like, it does make you a bit paranoid, but I wouldnt worry too much.

Now go and camp outside the place and make sure nobody touches your car.

Lol, or take your own wheel clamp, and clamp it where it stands till collection time.

As to where your car is now, probably having numbers stuck on the doors, and in the paddock awaiting the next Clio Cup series race

Dont be paranoid, if you dont know whats on the clock now, go and have a look, if there is a big diff when you collect, you should take issue then. End of the day there is much more chance of anyones car being thrashed to a pulp whilst in for a service/road test, so why worry?

I bought the car online. Its sourced through an undisclosed UK dealer so ive got no way of checking the mileage. That said, I think im overworring about this. Thanks for all your responses.

Yeah, I can relate, Cup was my first new car, so wanted everything to be perfect, but im sure yours will be, so wouldnt fret too much.
