Dell Inspiron N5040 disk drive not reading

Hi,
my girlfriend had a brand new Dell Inspiron N5040 for christmas, she has just tryed to put a cd in, and the disk is spinning up, but thats as far as its getting. it doesnt seem to be reading it and the laptop doesn't seem to regognise that it is doing anything,
Any suggestions?

If you go to My Computer can you see the DVD drive? It might have auto start up enabled.

Yeah tryed a few different discs, and nothing. as i say, its spinning up but the laptop just doesnt seem to acknowledge that its doing anything

Or return it and buy a MacBook

Dell support are ok to speak to, although they do go through a lot of crap.

Yeah, gonna phone Dell now as obviously its still under warranty, and if i could afford a macbook, i wouldn't have bought the dell in the first place
