Dent Repairs

  Clio V6
Was rather gutted the other day to discover a few tiny dents in the roof of the Vee, I'm guessing something must have dropped on it whilst out for a drive. They won't photo as they're really small but they basically look like a couple of light finger size impressions.

Anyway, I decided to phone Chips Away. They got in touch straight away and advised of a good local persons who specialises in Paintless Dent Repairs. The guy sounded pretty genuine but said that the only way to sort it will be to remove the roof lining and push them up. I was hoping he'd propose the glue approach but he said that this wasn't possible because of the full respray that the car has had. He also said that it will take 1/2 a day to sort so about £200 in total.

It might be just me but this doesn't seem to feel right to me, surely he has to inspect the problem first before being so sure about it? I guess the best thing to do it ask him to commit to a full repair before he starts attempting it. There's no way I want to spend £200 unless I know it'll get sorted.

I'd go to a proper body shop. I had a dent dude come round and actually make it worse - he looked about 11 years old too.

Most good body shops have their own PDR chaps or have ones that they contract out - I would rather go there first!

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
I've done a PDR course earlier this year, it's pretty involved. There's some shocking examples of work out there, and some very good ones.
He's absolutely right that the headlining will need to be dropped and it can't be glue pulled (unless you are happy to pay for paint again if it were to peel)
Did he ask for pictures of the dent over email? should be able to get a reasonable idea from that. you should be paying £50-£70 per dent for a perfect job, but maybe more for very awkward or very visible areas where access is hard and detail is important. Traders will all tell you it should be £25. they all get £25 worth of dent removal ;)

Cheers mate, no he didn't ask for photos but then I did say that they'd be almost impossible to take as you can only see them in a certain light from a certain angle.

I think I'll just insist that he examines before starting any work and if he can't guarantee a full repair then not to bother at all.

If your going CSS my brother will be there with two other collegues.
They will be charging £30 a panel but that is also dependant on how involved it is to take it out.
If you are there for CSS come over and my brother and his colleagues will be on hand to give advice and perhaps remove it for you.

If your roof is covered in dents I'd be looking for a PDR guy who has hail damage experience.
Get someone who's not up to the job and it will look awful.

Thanks to you all for your advice. I wimped out of CSS as it's miles away from home plus I'm already going to Kimbolton this year with the V6 guys.

A really nice chap from a company called Dent Repair Service has just left, he did a brilliant PDR job for £70 and the car now looks perfect again. Once he inspected the quality of the respray he had no hesitation going the PDR route as he said it was a top class job.

Ed is happy again :)
