dephaser on the way out?

hi there peeps i went to a specalist in leicester today to get a quote for changing the belts, and when i went to start up the car which usually takes a second or two longer to start he said he could hear a grinding noise. he thinks it could be my dephaser pully.


does this sound true?

apparently it sounds like a diesel when they go. to be fair if there's any concern i would get it changed with the belts as it's a belts off job.
