dephaser pulley problem

  clio rs 2000
my friend bought a 172 ph1 last week but the car sounds like a diesel engine. it has a dephaser pulley fault.
we heard that cup dephasers are different is it true?
we want to change it and wondering if there is option like that .
if it is true what is its renault part number?
also if any one has a second hand one we can buy it if the price is good

Which car did you bought? Also change the exhaust pulley at the same time in my opinion. If you learn the price of the pulleys, please let me know.

Why change the exhaust pulley?

Just the dephaser is fine, maybe change the nut on the exhaust side.

Cambelt kit, auxiliary belt kit with tensioner and a replacement dephaser pulley pretty much covers it.

Never heard of anyone change a exhaust pulley in a routine belt change and never heard of these dampers, guessing you mean the spring tensioner?

it has a harmonic damper. It's a rubber section in the pulley that damps vibration. DrRollo's one fell apart (NOT his phase shifter as is repeatedly spouted), never seen another one have a problem

Mines rattling like a skeleton in a wardrobe. Fine when cold, but when warm...... :(

that's the cost from renault to do a cambelt at the same time. Go to a specialist and you'll pay a bit over half that

yea they have to change cam belt and aux belt wen they take em off coz they stretch and not good to reuse them, would rather have it all done at same time, not costing me owt anyways hopefully under warrenty thru the guy i bought it off

You'd be suprised. My local dealer was only something like 60 quid difference between the nearest well know specialist.

i'm going off the price quoted, and knowing what most of the specialists on here charge. There should be no extra labour charge on top of doing the cambelt, so just the part price at ~£150
