Despite the problems...

  Flame Red 172!
...I absolutely LOVE my 172!

Even with all the niggley little problems that i'm going through with my car at the moment, it's the times where I take it out and give it a damn good pasting through the 'twisties' where I really appreciate what a fantastic little car it is.

Yes I know there's better cars out there...but for the money and in it's class I just think that there's really nothing else that can touch it!...i've only had mine for 3 weeks now (1 week of that it's been in the garage - it's there again this weekend!) and i'm just astounded how much grip and power it's got...stuck it into a couple of lovely bends last night down some little lanes where I live and it just gripped and gripped and then powered out like it's powered by a V2 rocket! Just put a massive smile on my face all the way home...:D...and I couldn't wait to get in it again this morning!

Admittedly i've come from a 1.6 ford escort so a Dawoo Matiz would probably feel fast compared to the 172 but all my friends (who all drive fairly fast, good handling cars) have been in mine and just WANT one!

Just a pointless post really but I kinda realised that all I seem to do is moan about mine (Starting problems, low idle, various rattles, flapping noises from the engine bay, blah, blah, blah, yadda, yadda, yadda...) since i've had it and i've kinda lost sight of why I bought it in the first place!

Sorry...had a 'zen' moment there...hope you can all forgive me! :rasp:

By the way...anyone in the market for a mint condition MKII flame red 172?...I give you good price! ;)

I have had my 172 for 4 weeks now and my previous car was a pug 205 GLD diesel, so that was a massive step up.

I have wanted a 172 for over a year and i use to dream about what 172bhp on tap would feel like. And when I saved like a ***** to finaly buy one, im not actuly that impressed with the speed. I know its quick but its def not as quick as you think it would be.

I think what happend is that i dreamed so much about how fast a 172 could be that when i drove one i was not that impressed if anyone knows what i mean. I know mine is running spot on with no faults. I also test drove two cups and took one of them past 100mph and it still didn't feel that fast.

Maybe im use to more road noise/engine noise in my ex pug.

One thing i was gob smacked by was the handling. Wholly sh!t can it handle. It just feels so competant in the corners and it also gives enough warning before it over steers.

To summerise the things i most love about the 172 is its interior, toys, stealth looks and handling. But was disapointed in its performance. ( raced a stripped out modded saxo vts and beat it by a car length and i had a passenger and a full boot) but still not as quick as i wanted he he.

Anyway, i have decided to sell mine now as i was not that impressed versus the money it took to buy, insure and run it. Plus im much more likly to crash etc. Think id rather have a diesel cruser at the end of the day. :-( Im not a boring person thou or i would not of bought one in the first place would i?

Anyway thats my take on the 172! :p

^ think the problem may be due to the fact you used to own a diesel, which is more torquey and totally different power bands. I've been out in a mates 2.2 diesel civic, and it feels much fast than my 172 when he puts his foot down, but thats it, no kick no nothing. On everyday driving diesels do feel quicker but in real life but when u get to the power band of a 172 cant really beat it
