You sure? I'm 99% sure the uch contains no soilid state relays, so there should be no 'ticking'

well in response to the ticking when reving from the dials! When it revs it ticks. But it has gone now since the new part was fitted. What would you guys recommend i do next? I dont want to keep paying for nothing!

Its dying!

Great 50 miles down the mway and bang every light on the dash revs held at 3000 whilst not in gear. Merry christmas.

I'd suspect crank position sensor in this situation. Loss of the crank signal will result in the engine stopping as described with no warning lights or similar. Does it restart fairly easily when it's cut out?

With the engine idling gently push on the CPS, if the engine stops thats your problem. The sensor may be okay and it may just be the terminals inside the plastic connection which are causing the problem. To test close the pins up see if the engine still stops when you push on the sensor/connector.

Failure of one of the PPS or TPS will result in a CEL and circa 2000RPM idle speed but not engine shutdown as that's not a 'safe fail' for a DBW system.

Yes it restarts innocently like nothing has happened. Can i access the CPS easily from under the bonnet?

Thanks , your advice is wicked

Do you know anyone with an RSTuner? It would pay to get one hooked up to your RSC to check if there are any fault codes logged.

Happy to help. Sounds a lot like a crank signal issue to me! The CPS is located on the top of the gearbox underneath the thermostat housing. It is a 2 wire sensor suspended on a metal bracket which is bolted to the engine block.

Often referred to as the TDC sensor ;)

Mark, your knowledge is invaluable, is there any chance you could take a quick look at my 182 problem thread in this section?

TDC is an old school term refering to older control systems which just looked for a top dead centre reference. Anything modern will need to know where the engine is in at least 360 degree rotation, usualy in 720 degree rotation, so it can accurately place the ignition and injection event amongst other things.

I'll have a look at your thread now.

Update

So whats the point in going to a main dealer to fix a problem when people on here can do it from just typing to me! So its the........ Pedal, i still dont have my car as they ordered the wrong pedal!. They are offering a refund if they take out the new throttle control and whack in the old one. To me this seems petty, not like they can re- use it...

If the engine is shutting down completely and stalling it's very unlikely to be the pedal as the DBW fail safe mode cannot shut the engine down and still pass type approval (as in stopping the engine you also lose power steering, servo assistance for the brakes etc.)

However keeping my fingers crossed it is pedal related and this sorts it for you. Hope they're not just reading the fault codes and swapping whatever pops up without thining about it!

I'd speak to Renault UK regarding the service you've had from the dealer. Bunch of f**king clowns. Don't be nasty just explain the problems and your situation at present (400 notes out of pocket and the problem still isn't fixed, etc.) If it's easier for you to email rather than call them send it all over to customer.services@renault.co.uk or 08000723372. That might start to get you somewhere with getting your pennies back.

I have already moaned but the most i can get is £100 of my next service. For £400 i have had the throttle control replaced which speaking to them did have an error in its memory. And also the pedal thing done. It goes like shat of a shovel now! But if it goes again its going back. I dont think i can moan anh
more.
