Did I pay over the odds for my 182 then?!

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
Ok, with all the threads on here about "how cheap you can buy a 182 for" at the moment, im starting to wonder if I paid over the odds for my car?! I personally didnt thinks so (obviously), but maybe I am wrong?

Its a 04 plate, done 72000 miles, has full service history with most of the work done at renault or a renault specalist, cam belt and aux belt changed at 64000miles, 4 almost new tyres (perrelli) and so on. The only damage was on the steering wheel and on the wing mirror (slight scrape). No rust anywhere, exhaust looked rust free as well. I paid 2950 for it with 3 months warrenty. Pictures are below. So what do you think? Over or OK?

Also, im still looking for the previous owners! If he/she is still around, I would love to know if you had any problems with it in the past...

Has both cup packs unless someone has put cup packed wheels on it. only way to tell is measure the strut bolt spacing.

Oh i reckon that was an absolute steal.

Sounds decent to me.

CS moan at how their clios aren't worth anything yet they more than anybody else are driving prices down by telling people they've payed too much. Retardation ftw.

Looks like you've got both cup packs mate.

I'd say it's a fair price considering new tyres, belts done, FSH etc.

Thats a good price, especially with the belts done.

Theres some dreamers on here trying to sell these for £4750 in need of the cambelt doing.

Cs.net is its own worse enemy sometimes. They moan that clio's are worth fcuk all then bang on about how cheap they can buy them.

These people know.

I find it bemusing how people talk down the value of their own cars so much :S

Cheaper than I got mine for 2 weeks ago. I paid £3400 with 59k. Belts changed + depahser changed start of November.

Prices are ridiculously misleading on this forum.

I live on the southcoast and within 30 miles there are 2 pikey-spec 182s between £2500 and £3000. "Proper" examples start at £3450.

Change the postcode to birmingham (which isn't even "oop north") and there's pikey-spec 182s between £1350 and £2350. There are several "proper" looking examples from independant dealers (cup packs, MOT, TAX, warranty, cambelt, sub 80k miles etc) starting at around £2700.

Now factor in people buying them privately without cambelt changes etc or with a few issues and you end up with midlands/northen members paying only a fraction of what many others pay.

As said, i wouldn't believe too much on this forum about Clio prices. Forum member's seem to make them cheaper by the day with how they go on.

Nice car btw, looks smart :)

.

LOL wouldnt say I was dreaming mate, more so reflecting the condition and mileage, @35k its quite low. Its a starting figure anyhow as I'm open to offers. Chances are I'll keep it and do the belts anyway courtesy of Fred

I bought my RB for £4400... on 48k belts done at birchdown, 95% excellent condition. That was in August

I thought that was a bargain, I know prices have dropped but I still think I got a good deal.

A better deal will always come up a few months after you buy yours.

Yeah I'd have liked to have paid £500 less but the fact is you can only buy what is available at the time and it was already the best deal I'd seen in 3 months of searching.

Looks like a good buy to me.

You should be able to pick up a decent second hand steering wheel quite cheap.

Yes I have been looking on ebay and have seen a few going for around £20. Iv also seen some carbon fibre inserts that replace just the rubber bits for £80...

After doing a bit of reading and youtubing, im wondering if it actually have a noisy dephaser :s When I got it, the first thing my gf said to me was 'it sounds like a diesel'! Im only now learning that might mean a worn dephaser!! I will have to take a video of it tomorrow and seek some more opinions!

I'm not so sure that people in this forum talk prices down at all TBH. There is a separate world of Clio buyers outside of this forum too!

You only have to go to ebay - log in - go to advanced search - tick completed listings and type clio 182 / 172 and you'll see the real prices people are actually buying these for, not one has made more than £2,200 in the last few weeks (including dealers). There are loads and loads of unsold cars high lighted in red. Looking through the adverts there is nothing to suggest these are all s**tters at all (although some will be).

Of course there are others that sell for higher prices, but it all depends on how long you are willing to wait to get rid of it.

Yes you can buy them cheap but why would you? some of the ones I've seen for sale make me cringe.

I would gladly pay top dollar for a top dollar car - I've bought cheap before and regretted it.

When I was looking at buying my williams I looked at god knows how many and some of the prices people were asking were an absolute joke. I think sale pictures are a curse and an omen at the same time - you look at these cheap ones and think yeah looks good in the photos, then after driving all the way there you no without getting out of the car it's a shitter!

Looks a great buy to me mate. Don't worry about price now. You bought it at what you thought it was worth at the time, if you thought it was overpriced you'd have walked away surely?

FWIW we paid £3500 16 months ago for a BG 182 with FSH, both cup packs and the only blemish I could find after an hour scouring the car was a smaller-than-5p-coin bubble on the bonnet. There were similar examples listed for £5k at the time. We deliberately didn't pay top dollar for a mint condition car, as even they can go wrong, likewise we didn't buy a shitter which we knew would need work. We bought middle-price wise knowing there was something left in the budget should it be needed.

fingers crossed on the dephaser front!
