Difference between 205/40 and 205/45 tyre

  Black 182 + Recaros

What effect will it have putting 205/40/16 tyres on a 172 MK2.

I know I will loose some performance, but how much difference does it really make. Also how does it change the comfort level.

I would be 10.25mm difference.

205/40 means the sidewall is 40% of 205mm

205/45 means the sidewall is 45% of 205mm

Techically it should increase acceleration but reduce top end and Wider tyre, mores grip but more resistance at hight speed etc.

Personally I think the 205s are a good idea only trouble is not many people make them but the Yoko Parada is a good tyre.

Im going to be changing for them when due!

Chris - "But I doubt the 205-45s are a very nice ride anyway are they"

Why do you say that ? Do you mean 205/40. Is that because they are lower and firmer.

How about 215/40. WannabeeCup uses these.

I had 205/40s once on a old car and I wouldnt have them again, 45s all the way less crashy on bumpy roads and more progressive on the limit IMO.
