pahse 2 look a bit more modern thats all

mechanicals are all the same

wongy

hmmmmmmmm

not sure if the pumped up looks will suite the phase 3 lights

photo shop epert could show us i guess hint hint anyone good with it

Clio16VPaul, I agree, dont think phase 2s look as meaty, I drive a silver 96 N reg and dont think it looks as aggressive as earlier models, maybe the colour though !?!? Rajik, if you go for leather it doesnt matter does it ??

  clio 20v

imo ph 1 grill an sidestrips are sh*t, ph 2 ones for me

ph 2 rear lights look better than ph1s but ph1 mirrors are definately better looking

prefer a ph 2 carbon strip on a ph1 tailgate so u lose the badges

ooh hang on isnt that exactly all stuff mine has

hehe

i think to make it fair we should race the fastest phase 1 vs the fastest phase 2 to see whos better ... so in the phase 1 category we have nick reads car.. so whos up for entering there phase 2 against it?

I was behind a L plate phase 1 the other day and it definetly looked beefier, obviously i couldt compare because i was driving but it may be down to the colour, his was blue mines white.

The phase 1 seats were better??? cant say ive really thought about it, but mine in the phase 2 are spot on, the phase 1s had a few dodgy interior patterns i know that! i got lucky and landed with the black and grey velour pattern, seen a few nasty ones around ( i hate leather, really dont like it at all!!!)

Id say each to there own, i have a phase 2, but id just as happily of got a phase1...

Heres some more differences:

The earlier Phase1 16vs (up to late 1992) had the then Renaultsport logo on the door pillars and on the interior trim. The very first batch of UK-bound 16vs also came without a catalyst, but these numbers were very few. I might be talking comeplete shyte, but I recall that these few cars also came with a function that allowed the manual adjustment of the idle speed or something like that (??).

Later Phase1s (late 1992 to March 1994) had the same seats, but in a different trim. These seats also continued to be fitted to the RSi during Phase2, when the 16v got new front seats (from the 19 16v) and different trim again. It was also later during Phase1 that the sunroof changed from a pop-up model to an electric tilt and slide one.

Phase2 16v (April 1994 onward) front seats were the same as 19 16v ones, which had been the case with the Phase1 leather option. Im not aware of major trim changes during Phase2, but later models got side impact bars and driver airbag, in line with changes to the rest of the Clio range. Cars with the leather option also have a softer leatherette covering on the dash top. The last of the line 16vs were also available with a single-slot CD player as a factory option.

There were some other minor changes throughout the life of the 16v such as a more powerful alternator - but these were mainly confined to Phase1 and were most likely the result of ongoing development on the basis of sales/garage feedback. There were many colour options available on the 16v - some of the seemingly coming and going after only a few months.

last of the line 16Vs have single peice roll pin in the sun wheel as opossed to the now superceeded 2 peice one.
