Digital Tacho

Ive just ordered a LCD Tachometer gauge ( 2" ) with mountings etc, so not bothered about that end....

what im curious about it... how do you wire it up ? I take it I can use this as an additional Tacho to the dashboard one ??

Any advice, ideas, comments etc...

I know its pointless getting one if i already have one, but its just for the sheer gadget factor in the car :)

it depends how it works, but I would imagine you would need to take a tap off the speed pulse output, there is a wire that goes to your HU which controls the volume dependant on speed (if you have this enabled in the HU) you could always take a tap off that.

This is the wire I used to provide speed information to my Sat nav system.

i dont think id even have to tap into it :D ive got a sony head unit now, only the renault one does it ( unless it features it specifically )

so i could just use that i suppose :D

I think that may be enough for it to work as it is a digital guage with digital display, so dont see any need for mechanical devices :S

the ISO plug for the stereo ?? thought it would have been one frmo the smaller yellow ISO plug from the headunit...

the tacho is in.. and i tried the wire, however something occured to me... the stereo was variable with the volume, dependant on the SPEED of the vehicle, not the REVS of the vehicle..

When wiring it up ( tried it non the less ) it just read 0, unfortunatly, i was only holding the wires etc, not in permantnly till i find pods to fit properly... so i couldnt move the car to check if it varied with the speed ( i.e. 0 was the speed reading )

Any other ideas...
