Digital Video cameras in car

I've been trying to get some clips of my exhaust from inside the car but my camcorder doesn't seem to record hardly any of the exhaust sound. It's pretty f**king loud in the car but the camera doesn't seem to pick up much of the noise.

Are all camcorders like this? Is it because the mic is pretty puny and the exhaust not is too low for it?

Anbody else experienced similar?

Not sure why that's not working. Mine's always picked up the exhaust quite clearly.

That's what I thought. I've watched plenty of in car vids where the exhaust is perfectly audible. I'll have to look further into the settings.
