Dipstick

Car  Formally Clio 182
I'm maybe being a bit of a dipstick here :) but i've never changed my oil on my 182 before as Renault have always done it on a service every time since I've owned the car for the past year, but now the oil light is on and no service is due I need to do this myself.

I popped open the bonnet today to look for the dipstick to double check it is the oil and thought it would be in the same place as the 1.2 billabong I used to own but couldn't see it.

My question is.. Where is the dipstick?

Is it covered up by the plastic engine cover?

No mate, it's not under the engine cover.
It's beneath the fuel rail cover (the rectangular aluminium bit at the front of the engine)and is a bit tricky to get at too.
Look under the fuel rail cover from the right hand side and you will see it.

yeah its right down the front of the engine below the injector guard, its best to do it when the car's cold

As said .Under the fuel rail guard :

I check mine weekly. Wouldn't leave it up to the oil light coming on.

Does the oil light not mean that you have below minimum oil in it?

When you turn the engine on press the trip computer button straight away and an electric dipstick will display. It's worth checking once a week. The elctric dipstick should display a line of o's if it is full of oil. Use this as a rough guide only though dont use it for checking oil levels when topping up!
