Direct line car insurance problem....Is this legit what

  LY 200
...they are going to do here?

Right i have been flitting between Elephant and Admiral for the past 4 years getting better deals with one one year and then the other the next (even though there the same company i know) but this year found Direct Line to be a fair bit cheaper so i went with them!!!

My policy start date dates back to the end of July. I got all the gumph through giving deatails of the policy and requests for no claims etc but me being a wally forgot to send them it so i have now just opened a letter dated the 13th August (mother reckons it only got here today) saying they are going to add £394.00 to the policy and if they dont here form me withing 10 days (which i presume will need to be a written letter accompanied with the no claims certificate as theres no contact details on for phoning through on the letter) they will take it this is ok!!!

I know im in the wrong to some extent here for forgetting however when iv got insurance via the phone before they've run accident checks etc anyway so surely they could find out im legit if they wished!? Also surely they have to account for the fact it could have been lost in the post as we all know posts not 100 percent safe these days!!!

I will get the certificate off to them now but its obviously not going to get to them sharpish with the bank holiday period but i just want to know what my rights are here!?

If they get funny about it i take it im in my rights to scrap the plan and take my business back to Elephant, Admiral or elsewhere?

When did you take out the policy?

Sounds like somthing they would do, you must have a customer service number, give them a buzz and see what they have to say

What payment method is it, direct debit?
If so cancel it with your bank in the morning.

Tell DL you posted it off (some) time ago. Give them your previous insurers name and policy number and they can check on claims, NCB etc etc.

31st of July Chris!!!

Craig i will do mate but i just wonder where i'll stand if they say its too late now or try fining me with some sort of charge for the delay!?

Da...I was thinking about doing that mate but i thought honesty was the best way forward but again thats what i said surely they have to account for a 'lost in the post document'..........I pay monthly on it by direct debit anyway so surely i wont need to cancel it as it should be resolved by next month when in theory that should be the first month they take extra money off me!!!

Think your outwith your right to cancel then (well not charge free anyway)

Phone up and say you sent it on / are sending it, see what they say, should be fine im sure

I'd give them a bell mate & see what they say, then go from there.

If they get funny, jack them in & go with elephant/admiral again.
