Discs corroding at 25 K????

  Monaro VXR/Cupra TDi
Just been for the 24K service at GDI.

The technician said I'd need to replace my front discs soon as they're corroding. OK, the unused centre part of the disc is looking grubby but never have I been told to replace discs due to this.

The discs have a great deal of metal left on them. Just wondered if this unusual or a failure of this OEM part?

Thanks.:)

lol
whats the braking effort like ??
there will obviously be a lip out of the pad cover area .

i would not worry if your brakes are fine but obviously
you cant use them for another 25k like :)

The braking effort is fine. No problems. I shan't bother to replace them, Discs don't normally need replacing until 50 K +.

my car's just done 26k and the front discs and pads were done 2k ago. Apparantly the oem parts are prone to rusting.

Look at the inside faces of the disc, thats where they corrode most on clio's. Thats where most of the road s**t sprays up into. Braking wont be to affected in power but using a smaller pad surface area will not help on efficency.

The rust builds up on the outer and inner lips of the disc.

I replaced mine at 15k. not cos they were worn out but cos i wanted better braking so went for brembo discs and ds2500 pads. having said that, they looked fine on the front face of the disc but were absolutely knackered on the backside. corroded to hell!!! so yes they are probably tellin the truth and yes they will need replacing idealy :)

f**k me, disks lasting for 25k is a miracle to me! Mine usually last about 10k absolute tops for stock items... even then one is ball bagged already... okay, may have something to do with locking them up and hitting a pot hole... but either way they aint lasted that well...

How old is the car?
My mums suzuki has corroded disks at 11k, but it was 3 years old.

  Lots of Alfas
They also corrode more quikly if you live near the sea and have alloy wheels that expose them more.

Thanks for the comments gentlemen.:)

I guess it's failure on these car's as I've never had to replace brake discs before with these miles on the clock.

I don't recall seeing anything which looked seroiusly corroded when shown the inside of the discs at GDI.

I'll have a good look within the next few days. If they are showing signs then this will be the first upgrade when the warranty expires.

I had mine done around 30k. Apparently, they wear away easily due to the harshness of the brake material, or so I was told.

50K!!!! do you want to end up dead for the sake of £100?

discs on RS clios last anywhere from 6K to 25K MAX

Anyone any suggestions on new discs for a 1.6 16v dynamique?
I changed the front pads not long ago to ferodo pads, but the discs are still standard. Bit of noise on front driver side wheel and i cant decide if its the brakes (hence changing discs) or the wheel bearings.

when i had my car serviced at gdi they said the brakes were corroded and not useable at 24k, luckily i was having my disc and pads changed anyway so it wasnt a problem.

mine were corroded to death at 13k, replaced with brembo hc and ebc greens and all is well again.
