Discussion about my cars....

Bear with me on this one....

Currently I have a 197 (company car, which goes back thursday)
A ph-1 172 which is my track car (I never have the time for it anymore)
A pug 306 hdi as my Mrs' runner.

Now, i'm leaviing my job tomorrow, so the company car will be lost. We need a newer/up to date family car to replace the 306 AND the 197 which we currently split the driving between. I also want to keep a toy that i can use at the weekends/days off so i'll need to get rid of the track car.

My options:
1) VW golf gtitdi for the family car, save up as hard as i can (for a long time! lol) for a v6 clio as my toy. But i'll have to be patient while i save.
2) BMW 320d as the family car, clio 172 FF/Cup as a toy and I can get them pretty much any time now.

depends what you want dan.. you could do option 2, then if you really want a V6, save up for it, but have the 172 in the meantime

2)

Although I'd have the VW Golf GTTDI with a remap and a FF 182 in your shoes.

I don't really want a Golf tho, already had one. Ideally i'd like the 320d AND the v6, but theres no way I can afford that.

2 (imo think the family car will be more of a priority, since you wont have the 197 any more id say get the 172, saving up for a v6 leaves you sharing a car which can be inconvenient)

lol, i'll never be without a car mate, i'm a car salesman! Theres 4 outside the house now...

320d is a nice enough car. It'll go on with no problems and if it doesn't, all post 2004 Bimmer diesels have 5 year warranties.

Get a 330d and you can lump them together, it's economical enough for a family car, has great residuals, remap and it's faster than a V6. Get the M sport and it'll blitz round corners too.

Family car first priority and save for your toy, no rush if you have work cars all the time.

Lol then that's what you should do else you'll always regret it and you'll end up getting the vee anyway!

I'm going self employed as of thursday so to be honest i won't have the time to be doing anymore trackdays. Also as a road car its a pain in the ass with the harnesses.

there is no logical explination tbh. . .as long as you have the family car sorted your ok, most important imo, sell the track car for extra cash and make the process for getting the vee a little quicker;)

GTVlew, (aka Bros ;))No idea mate! They're so randomly priced!

Been looking at an 02 plate with 80k, £6500. An 01/51 plate with 90k, £6500, and a X plate with 60k on it for £5500. Theres no pattern with them.

If you really want the V6 then why dont you run round in a cheaper normal car (but not crap) and use the money you save on a v6... ;)I wouldnt spend 6k on a higher mileage car (90k like you said) even a bmw as id rather buy something not as 'good' for everyday and have the better car for the toy. I drive about in my W reg laguna 1.8 16v( cost me £1000 a year ago 1 owner/90k/almost mint) and it does everything for going to work/the shops a 6k car would do just is cheap. But anything like a mondeo tdci newer shape 51 reg on is cheapish and is an excellent car.

I have thought about that. I know a guy with a 52 plater (pre facelift i beleive??) 2.4 diesel thing. I used to have a 2.5v6 one but after 2 clutches in 2000 miles, i got rid! lol

The 20v 175hp version is a gen 140mph car, remaps on these are 220hp and something like 360ibs. they are a lot better than the petrol for reliability

beemers are really bad for that imo. id make sure you get one with loads of spec, easier to shift and more desirable. A poverty spec with cloth and no toys will struggle to sell

Oh yeah, it will have to have leather. All the BM's i've had in the past with cloth have struggled to sell.

I had a 1.8T before yeah.

How much does that leather place charge out of interest? My mate works for merc, and they retrim used cars that they buy from auctions etc for £1500. I reckon it can be done cheaper...
