DIY plastic fillering??

i want to fill in the ridge in the mk2 ph1 non sport bumper, bump strip,

is that makes any sence,
done some fillering before,
but does anyone want to write a guide to any good/revised ways of doing it??

any advice would be great

how experienced are you with it mate ? cos its not just putting the filler on there there is also gettin it smooth afterwords it looks alot easier to do than it is , it takes along time to master it .
make sure you key the bumper up fully so your filler sticks .
then you want to flat it with p180 paper
And then a few layers of high filler primer .
what are you doinf for painting the bumper ?

ive used filler before,
but not on this scale,
and not to this depth

pardon my ignorance,
but what is high filler primer??
is it primer made to have filler put over it??
if so, where do i get it and how much,

as for painting,
i was going to primer it up myself, and get it painted by a professional,

ill see if i have a picture of the bumper at hand

also, would the texture sand off if i wanted a smooth finnish???

you could sand it off but itd more than lilkely get hot and furr up, best to sand it all down with like 320 and use some high build primer to build it up, then wetflat it down with P800/1000 or 1200 to smooth it

as for filling it, make sure you really rough it up well all inside the line or the filler wont stick at all. id be tempted to p180 it, all inside, all along the line, and get some fibreglass in there, run your finger right round to push it all in and take off any excess, sand that down then fill over it

high build primer is just primer with good covering potential, usually 2k (mixed with hardener) but it can come in aerosol form. personally i dont notice much difference between that and regular cellulose in the aerosols.

after reading that, i think i might leave the ridge in there,
really dont want it to come out s**t,

is there anywhere youd reccomend to get the high build primer??
or would halfrauds suffice?

can get the primer anywhere really, halfords, ebay, google will bring up lots of results

and yeah, its just primer, but thicker, covers better

cellulose primer dont need hardener, 2k primer needs hardener

cellulose cures by solvent evaporation

2k reacts with the hardener to go hard

so for an amature attempting colour coding,
would you suggest getting the cellulose high build primer??

do you have to put normal primer on after that??
of can you paint over that primer??

yeah get some high build

cellulose high build is just normal primer

yep you just wetflat it down and paint straight over it

The best way to fill the ridge would be to use some fibreglass, you can buy premixed stuff in halfords, go over it with filler afterwards to get it smooth and sand the texture down using wet and dry. I did a whole front bumper on my corsa, took AGES! I did a little bit every day over about a month!
