Do broken baffles = louder/droney?

  BMW M3
Just trying to identify whats wrong with my exhaust. Im getting a replacement from janspeed and have said its the baffles, but to be honest....who knows lol.

I was therefore just wondering if anyone can tell me what is wrong with an exhaust if it becomes loud and very droney when hot.

Ive got a sports cat and seems fine inside (from what i can see) and would guess it would make it a little louder, but the other day going down the A68 and having fun, i had to pull over for a break as the booming noise in the cabin was doing my head in.

Its mostly boomy when accellerating or slowing down from speed, rather then cruising.

Any idea whats going on as i think i will need some ammo in days to come.

Thanks Guys

I hate exhausts like that!

I noticed when i had my cat fitted to my valver it sounded more boomy inside the cabin. Now i have my decat fitted and it's nice and quiet inside.

Not sure if that relates to you at all though!

I can hear a rattling sound from my car but it only happens when the car is cold, once it warms up its ok.

When it was in for a service recently they said it was the baffle in the centre section and that Renault would replace this under the warranty. Cant say ive noticed the exhaust being any louder (standard exhaust). I just need some time to book it in to be replaced or i might just go for a performance exhaust.

I dont actually know if i'm losing power because of this, the car still seems quick to me ;)

I should have mentioned that the exhaust im talking about is a Janspeed backbox, and i know there are not meant to be loud nor boomy. Think there one of the quieter 182 exhausts.... but def not mine.

Oh, and that it was boomy before the cat, just not as loud.

ClioKiz: Did replacing your sports cat with a de-cat make it quieter?.... now thats confused me lol.

I didn't have a sports cat, i was referring to the standard valver cat. I had to put it back in for the MOT. Just made it very loud inside the car and not that loud outside. Now i'm back with the de-cat, and its the other way around!
