Do I clay to whole car?

  monaco 172
Quick one, do I clay the whole car or just the bits that aren't smooth as glass?

I've had it a year and never detailed it, just wased and polished.

But I've now got everything I need for a detail.

Will the amount of clay you get with the autoglym clay kit be enough? In think it's about 100g

More than enough.

Break it up into lots of little bits, so you're not using the whole bar to do the whole car.

Shouldn't really need to change "lumps" unless the car is really that bad, just keep kneeding it round.

...and remember, if you drop the clay on the ground, DO NOT use it again.

Right ok that sounds about right.

How many pieces would you say I can get out of 100g? And how much to do the car

Just tear off a small chunk and use that to do the car. If you think it's getting too dirty, tear off another small chunk.

There is a certain degree of common sense that needs to be used ;)

I normally cut the bar into 2 or sometimes 3 even pieces then just use one to do the car. If the car is good you can use that piece many time with no issues. I normally only cut mine up so if i drop it (which i do a lot) i dont have to bin the whole bar.

If you use hot soapy water as lube it helps to keep the clay clean after each pass I have found, then you can use the QD for other stuff.

Hot soapy water is "OK" but ideally use a QD like Megs Last touch.

Im a bit of a silly bugger so recently bought some Dodo Juice Born Slippy to use as lube ....ooo errr

Yeah i normally wait until Halfords do their buy 1 get 1 free or 2-3 deal then stock up. I still put the clay in and out of a warm bucket of soapy water but best use a QD to prevent the clay from marring you paint.
