...believe your trip computer...42 miles to go my arse!

P***ing rain, howling wind, no coat, and already running late it just died at 85mph, outside lane. Hazards on, cut across front of an HGV, and managed to coast to the slip road without getting rear-ended by 250,000 cans of Heineken.

No petrol station for two miles...

I dont believe the thing either. The other night it said 45 mile left when I left work. Got home and it said 78 miles...............WTF

I think it calculates the ammount left in the tank by using your average MPG at the time. So your MPG may say 32, from that it may say you have 45 miles left, however the MPG indicator is not instant, so if youre bombing along the motorway at 85-90, you aint getting 32MPG and you aint getting 42 miles out of the tank!

Dont forget u use more petrol from cold so if it does a mpg check to see how far u can go it makes sense that it will show more when the engine is warm.

Even though the range left on the computer is a little "generous" shall we say, there is no way you should have run out as there is a factor of safety element in there and Ive run mine well into the red, with the yellow light on and the computer showing dashes...
