Do small mods need to be declared on insurance?

  MK2 P1 1.4S
I would like to do some small subtle mods on my car, such as clear side repeaters, silver vision bulbs, a neater aerial; also some interior mods like aluminium accessories. Would I need to declare these on my insurance policy even though they are superficial? I would like to tint the windows and lower the car too, although I have been slightly put off by reading that they will increase my insurance premium. I am with Virgin insurance if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance

Most of those wouldnt be a problem just the lowering will knock premium up should not be by much though.

a mod is a mod, so legally every change to make to the car from as it left the factory is a mod, and therefore needs to be delcared, even if you change the tyres to a different brand!

But i think you'll find many ppl don't declare EVERYthing

Thanks for the quick replys, I guess I'll just have to contact the company and see what they class as acceptable.

clear side repeaters won't matter, nor will silvervision bulbs, i asked my insurance company just to see, and they said that won't affect it.
But lowering your car will, and major mods will, and any engine mods that increase performance.
There is a company, can't remember which one that actually liked the fact that i tinited the rear windows, i just said i was adding "privicy glass" so people can't see in my car ;)

Common sense really, some are more anal than others.

Yeah, I thought the companies would have to be be pretty pedantic to void a policy over some different bulbs and things. Thanks guys

I'd still declare, just to cover your arse :)

Doubt they'd add much on at all, and if it's only like £20 then you'd be cursing if they did void it after you'd crashed! lol

So true! I was just asking here, as I didn't want to have to contact the company to get a rough idea, as I am only 17, so I didn't want them to "Blacklist" me or something for thinking about modding my car a little.

As above, personally i always declare EVERYTHING, that way they've got no excuses should the worst happen and you have to make a claim
