Do you own more than 1 Clio

I was just interested to know if you personally owned more than 1 Clio ? If you do, how do you cope with insurance ? Do you insure it on a low mileage policy ?

I would like to own a 172 and Williams one day but I was wondering how feasible it is ? I could afford the cost of the car but was unsure as to the other costs involved ? As my NCB is currently taken on my 172, I would have to insure the other with 0 NCB yes ?

Be good to hear from people who can answer yes to the thread topic.

Ive been looking into getting a Valver as a second car, insurance was about half what Im paying on the 172.

I used to have a valver but somebody burnt my garage down.

(thankfully it was just a rolling shell)

Insurance was very good when i got quotes £500-£600.

I had a 1.2 16v and a 16v ;)

I dont know if they still do it but the NFU (really!!) used to arrange policys for mulitple cars/tractors (but you didnt have to have a tractor)

We had a Bike and 3 cars on ours and i worked out really well.

I see Tom, sorry ! I edited my post, really not with it today !

:(

Trying to get the missus to get a Williams, I even offered to pay for half of it !

Its difficult (i.e. expensive) insuring more than 1 car - best to get the good lady to own it if she hasnt already got a motor.

That is what I am trying to do mate, the only problem there is that she has 0 NCB at the moment so insuring a Williams maybe be expensive me thinks !

She has even offered to buy one if she gets a new job and then she can drive it, and then if she changes it then I will buy it off her, whatta girl !

:D

A 172 and a Williams, groups 16 and 17 resp. IIRC ? Wont be much in it really but then we do build up 2 NCBs like you said. She drives a 106 XND at the moment so there will be a little difference !

I need to go and buy her some flowers I think !

;)

You mean you take the p1ss out of me buying a diesel when in reality you have one already well you misses has one, and dont tell me you havent driven it or been in it :D

BTW Jas has 2 clios. 1 16v Mel drives which is a trackday car and the other is Jass 172.

I have recently seen an advert for an insurance company that will give you your NCB for your second car aswell, unfortunately this is no use as I cant remember what the company was and where I saw it but I know its available somewhere!

Daffodils?

;-)

A bunch of daffs could do it ! Tom, leeks arent flowers last time I looked !

Chavy, it is HER car, not mine ! I have driven it, beats my 172 all ends up as you would expect !

;)

I remember Jas has 2 Clios, that is ideal if the missus drives the track day car !

We were insured through Elephant on the 172, when we wanted to insure the 16v we started a policy on Mels name (with no no-claims) and they gave us 4 years no-claims free, and said if we dont claim within the year we walk away with 5 years no claims. So it worked out very cheap!

(I think they only did this because she had been insured on the 172 for a couple of years without any claims).

Presumably if your insured Fully comp on your primary Clio then you will be 3rd Party fire and theft on the Williams? I know my insurance company has an option to insure 2 cars under the same policy but only 3rd Party Fire and Theft on the second... Is this not good enough? depends on how much the Williams is going to be worth?

Just a suggestion!"

Sooty, that is a very good suggestion, why didnt I think of that !?!?!?! I am pretty sure my current insurance policy does NOT allow me to drive other cars TPF&T, I will have to check but I am 95% sure about this. I could always phone to ask how much it would cost as that seems a very viable option too.

Thanks for that !

This allowance to drive other cars 3rd party has a little clause in it that the car has to be insured by someone else so i could drive my parents car 3rd party (no finance secured on it) but I couldnt register a car in my mums name and say Im fddriving it under my policy as to make my 3rd party cover valid somene else would have to have an insurance for if it.

Id like another Clio or something for the weekend as it would be cheaper than a 172 etc but dont think my parents woukld agree with me having 2 cars on the drive (although my dad does have a weekend car).

Edde, thanks for clearing that up man, thought it was a little too easy then.

I know the Williams is a group 17 on paper but if some companies are classing it as a a group 18 then it may be a little bit too much. Been getting quotes for myself which are very similar to what I have been getting for my 172.

It may be a little out of my financial reach at the moment, I will have to wait and see.

Also, checked my policy with Tesco, it does NOT entitle me to drive any other car so that is out the window anyway.

If anyone wants to buy a Mk1 Billy Willy, Mark Fish has a mega modd one, throttle bodies the lot, nice peice and very LOW...........Nice!

I have 2 clios, the mk2 172 "Heavily modded" (All declared) and the Williams 1, neither are on limited milage policies, but I pay £800ish for the 172 including all mods and using my full protected NCB, and the Williams I pay just over £1k decat and chip declared with no NCB.

Cheers Roamer, I am still trying to figure out the best way to do this is. I would love a Williams as a 2nd car and having the missus driving it would be ideal but then she does have a habit of hitting things every now and again ! So I am swaying away from that idea more and more !

Can you build up NCB on 2 policies under your own name ? I assume you can ? If so, then it is to no advantage to have the missus insure a Williams as she has 0 NCB, the same as I would have if I started a 2nd policy.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Yup, you can build 2 lots of NCB under your own name, no probs, thats what Im doing....... but of course if you dont have a second car for a couple of years you lose that second lot of ncb like you do with your first policy.

I have found a mint Williams 1 with just 45000 miles on the clock for £4000, I am so tempted but working out how much it would cost me to run along with a 172, it would be VERY expensive.

So tempted tho ! But then I have to think of twice as much tax, insurance, maintenance, petrol, etc. I dont know if it is worth it when it will only be used at weekends and the occasional track day.

I need a higher paid job that is what it is !
