dodgy Cars you have owned

I have owned some dodgy cars.

I have had a Cavalier 1.6LX. The Bottom end went so replaced with a £60 180SRI engine!!. Brought it with no history from some guy. A yr after i sold it i got a call from DVLA asking if i new that it was a cut and shunt!!

I have had a Nova SR witch got broken into twice in 8months. Even i could get into it in 2seconds flat!!

Had a Citreon AX which was fine and sold to my bird then the suspension arm and wheel fell off when driving.

My Clio broke down on the test drive!! Dont know why i brought it but is was the best around by far from all the others i looked at. (Ended up being a faulty battery which was new and i still had receipt so took it back):D. Knocked the bloke down by £300 just for the fact that it would start on the test drive?

Any1 else brought some dogs or owned some cars which where dodgy for some reason?

my first purchased car was a 1978 fiat miriafiori 1300 purchased in 1985 off a shady Nigerian bloke in London. It was a real dog and I used it to race in the woods near Surrey U (more like bounce off the tress..) and to commute to Uni. Needless to say the stoopid car was completely knackered.

Before that I drove some quality stuff I nicked from parents/friends including a mint 1971 MGB with chrome wire wheels etc

After that I moved into vewy vewy nice cars, but thats another story.

My nova needed no tools at all. Thats what annoyed me when it got broken into they caused damage both times. 1st time cut the rear passenger window out. Second used screw driver in lock. All they need to do is get you finger nails under the lock barrel and turn the lock iteslf and your in.

I had a FIAT Ritmo 75 in grassgreen metallic. Everything on this car sucked (when it worked. Which, for most of the times, wasnt not the case... )

I BOUGHT AN 03 CLIO CUP & ITS DODGY AS FOOK NEEDS LOADS OF WARRANTY WORK & ONLY 2 MONTHS OLD- I KNOW IM NOT THE ONLY 1.... bUT seriously... dodgy cars prevoius to the Cup.... er none really so the Cup is the dodgiest.... slapped wrists reno!!

a mark one VW polo.... the distributor was leaking oil, the rubber hose from the water bottle to the radiator melted in traffic causing it to fry a bit, oh and the only way to cool the engine down was to drive down large hills as fast as the stoopid thing would go.... had the last laugh, when I got my Pug the guy in the sales room was so desperate to sell me my car, he mistook my uming and ahing as hagling, I wasnt... I just didnt know if I could afford it, anyway he gave me £500 for the stupid thing without seeing it and it was worth about £10 I think.... he went white as a ghost when I dropped it off... hey his problem not mine :D

i had a corsa 1.4i 16v sport which my mum and bro shared then once i started drivin me and my bro went through 2 head gaskets in 6 months costin £600 a time! thank god for warranty!

Probably my first ever car.. paid 400 quid and it came complete with a swimming pool on the passenger side, only if it had been raining though and there were some big puddles arround.

I have the use of a Volvo 340 (the real family workhorse - we also have three other, nicer, Volvos too). It has a 1.4 carb engine and totally sucks. But the damn thing just refuses to die! It just costs us £100 a year to insure and £30 for an MOT, which it just flies through without problem.

By all rights it deserves to die as my brother gets into the car with the engine stone cold after a week, and blasts away as fast as possible in it!!

It has 150,000 miles on the clock - and guess what...its a Renault engine and box!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought my last car (a red K 1.4 clio) From a garage near the NEC in birmingham.. the clutch went a few weeks after buying it, when they took it out, they saw the whole of the shassy was crumpled, and had been badly welded back together, basically 2 cars put together, was a complete write off, they done the body work back up and done a dodgy MOT and sold it on. When we bought it, they told me it had been Stollen and recoverd before but no damage.. they lyed. They took it back, and gave me my money back.

First car - Fiat Panda 750 - had it a year or so - sold it to find out it was a right off.

Had a Citroen ax - head gasket went twice

Had an astra 1.4 merit lowered etc, head gasket went + was written off before we got it but they never told us.

Plus wrote off my Punto GT

Plus when I got my Clio within 2 weeks the head gasket went

As u can tell i have lots of luck with cars......

commonly refered to as a "cut & shut" in the trade. Funny thing is, if its done properly the joins will actually be stronger then the original metal.

still wouldnt get in one though (knowingly)

Had a 8V XR2i with 110,000 miles on the clock - and it had been clocked so god knows what the real mileage was!! It had some rust, ran it for 6 months with no trouble at all - thrashed the ticky knackered engine everywhere. It was a hoot - cr1p handling tho - no suspension at all, I think they forgot to fit it in the factory!! Bought it for £1000 sold it for £2000. All I did was T-cut it (from cream to white).

A J Reg Nova saloon 1.2injection, bought for £500 3 yrs ago as a trade car from a garage, Every panel had been resprayed, the boot had a lump in it where the car had been rear ended, the side was made of filler, the injector for the centre point injection was nackered so it missed everywhere it went and couldnt get up to 70 unless on a very very long down hill road. I managed to fix the injector tho but it was still slow as f##k!!!

Some strange looking fiat, dont know what is was. That my hubby and his friend bought from auction 4 me.

They called the next day to say it had been cut & shut and they took it back....drove like a crab!!!!!

I had a Suzuki SJ410... I bought it in a hurry as it seemed cheap and looked ok... well I was wrooong.. Driving it back home... i went to put the brakes on and all the pedals went straight through the floor.... it was rusted through... So I repaired that... had to cut a massive hole out and weld a new floor pan in... then after a week the bearings in the propshaft went...

When ever I went to the petrol station I used to have to buy 5 litres of petrol to go in it... and 5 litres of oil... I think it used to virtually run on oil...

Terrible thing to drive... solid front a rear axle... it used to wobble down the road with bump steer all the way...

I p/x it for a Suzuki Vitara... it was just as bad...

had a 1.2 nova, which was ok, but it was one of those cars that u neva when the brakes may giv up! then had a 1.4 orion, which is officially the sh**est car eva!!!! my 1.2 clio is by far the best car iv had!

I had an MG Metro for my first car, that later turned out to have a 1480 engine in it.

I did own a 1.7 volvo 340 (or was it a 360?), but really i was just selling it for a mate.

I bought a Pulsar that overheated on the journey home from the dealers and then spent the next 18 months in and out of repairers, eventually ending up with a cracked crank - ouch.

Mini - sub frame had rotted, used to brake and the brakes would just lock up, after spinning at 50 on an A road decided to get rid of it.

Metro - MG exhaust had been welded onto the manifold and used 5 litres of oil, wouls squeak everwhere it went, more audible outside the car though ppl would stop and stare.

5GTT - sold a wreck sub frame had gone

hmmm:mad:

i havent owned any dodgy cars but i think most of my mates have. My mate rich had a 36 year old morris 1100 with a 1300 engine in, after he smashed it for the 3rd time, his dad welded a shark fin to the roof and put shark teeth on the grill and painted flames down it. The valves were knackered so used nearly 2 litres of oil A DAY! he also added a recaro seat but cus the subframe didnt match the car it had one bolt holding it down and then balanced it out with a peice of wood! he has also owned a battered mk 2 escort hand painted in canary yellow, a montego with a blown head gasket, a metro he paid a fiver for and now he has a blue transit camper van. My mate kris had a 1.3 fiesta which looked fine when he bought it, then we were fitting some speakers, took the door cards off and noticed the doors were red on the inside when the rest of the car was blue. he took it round a corner once and the suspension arm had rusted through and collapsed. i was scared to get in it cus the suspension was so dodgy after that! At my old place of work we had a volvo 740 estate, with 175k on the clock, we wernt allowed to take it any further than ten mile as it had a tendancy to break down (which it did to me everytime i got in it) It had a fuelling problem, with your foot fully on the floor it would struggle to get to 800rpm then suddenly the fuel would get through and you would shoot off down the road. I got so pissed off with it, i was on some industrial estate, stopped at a junction, took it to the limiter and dropped the clutch! spinning in first and second, plus i broke the limiter! the guys on their tea break didnt look too impressed!

mmmmmm, probably my Mini. It needed :

2 subframes

Rear valance

Boot Floor

New front end (A pillars forward)

New suspension all round

New brakes all round

New interior (cos I wanted one, only thing that wasnt faulty)

New fuel tank

New headlights

New grille (rusted through)

New zorst (£13!!! for a full system!)

...........and all this in under 9 month.

When I finally got it working properly someone broke into it and knicked all my ICE. Sold it as soon as that happened, cost em a fecking fortune!

A 1ltr Nova I had was pretty wicked, seat snapped as i was going down the motorway, about 2 seconds before the rear tyre blew out at 80mph. What a car!
