Does a de-cat make a differance???

Some people say its give them massive power, some say they hardly noticed it,

what you will notice is the sound and if you have a 182 the light on in the dash lol.

On my old 172 mk2 ph1 it had twin cats which ate a lot of the power. After fitting a decat it seemed to gain a bit of power and rev so much nicer too. I could definately feel the difference.

On my Cup it was the last mod I did after foam panel filter, new ECU, K-tec catback exhaust.

If I started from scratch again, the decat would be the first mod without question.

ive got one on a mk1 1.4, seems to pull slightly better but 70+ you need to turn your stereo up, bit of a 'noise', ul need to take it off at mot depending on where you take it!

well bought it second hand off here, but think it was a Lunner pipe, if hes still about on here, probly different to urs as urs is a mk2 (looks as if it is from the pic)

Have just had my decat refitted, took it off for mot and left it off two months.

Christ! Difference in noise, and pick-up, is immense, like a different car.

Its on a pretty Free flowing prospeed, but christ.

the difference in outright power gain is only half the story

my car pulls a lot more cleanly, revs more freely and returns improved mpg.

  Looking for a ph-quick...
/\/\/\ Seconded, the power gain isnt just what a decat is about, its just allowing better flow which give smoother accelleration and more free revving.

I have one that fits your car.. paid £70 for it. it's a devil de-cat but it was made as a small batch not in full production as of yet. So i dont know if you'll find one tbh mate, i just got lucky!

I had a decat on the 182, small amount of difference just louder took it off in the end after 2 weeks, if its going on a 1.4 it will just make the car louder really.

How long for a garage to fit ?
Does it make it louder at all times, even at idle ?

I was told that it is damn near impossible to put a de-cat on a 1.4 16v without it running eratically?? can somebody please shed light if this is true, if it isn't am I right in theinking that a straight through peice of pipe would do the same job, instead of spending out shed loads of cash??

the 1.4 16v has a flexi pipe and a few bends, not like some other models that can be replaced with a "straight" pipe!

infact it looks like this:
