subject: spacers ( yes I know, another spacer thread)

I am currently running sportlines on OE shocks, If I fit hubcentric spacers (about 15mm each wheel all round) then.....

WILL IN IMPROVE HANDLING??? does anyone have a definitive answer???

Please Help, I dont fancy blowing £100 on naff all!
 
Yes. A wider stance at the front will improve handling. Not sure why you'd want to widen the rear though....

My mate races and pretty much everyone in his class is either running rediculous offset wheels or massive spacers on the front.

my reasons for doing the back were:

1) for cosmetic look
2) to 'balance' the increase in track (in case of wierd handling ?)

will it be a noticeable difference with 15mm each side?
 
I'm refraining from commenting further! I'm out of my depth! lol.

But if its what ALL the blokes do that race cars, then it must work!
 
More stress on your wheel bearings if you take the piss with spacers.

Also you are increasing the offset of the wheel, would this have an adverse effect on torque steer? i.e. the complete opposite effect generated by 'revoknuckle' on the focus RS and the 197/Megane suspension?

Ah yes but the run fancy diffs/driveshafts to counter all the other problems of having massive power in little shopping cars!
 
The cup has a wider track iirc, so in theory it should be ok??? But it would be nice for someone to confirm.
 
from memory phs2 172 are ET48.5 in stock form, if you add a 15mm spacer to that you'll technically be on ET33.5 which IMO is a bit too much

if you take into account the 172 cup using an ET38.5 offset combined with a 20mm wider front track and a 10mm wider rear track (see it wasn't just in the offset!)

you'll run into scrubbing issues IMO with a 15mm spacer

so what's you opinion of best setup for my 172 on non cup suspension and sportline springs, possibly leave it as it is?
 
the skinniest hubcentric spacer i know of is 13mm which would bring the car to ET35.5 which isn't that far off, that's what i'd go for
