Does the speedo sensor effect the ecu running?

  Various
Got the common speedo sensor fault with the speedo intermitently dropping to zero when moving on occasion, also seem to have a running fault only noticed today :( it feels like the car is jerking a little almost like poor fuel or the timing is being advanced/retarded.

Im a bit green with the clio to be honest and only just got it.
I noticed the fuel type is 98ron recomended, it was really low on fuel when I bought it and stuck £10 worth of normal 95 in to get me home etc would that effect the ecu timing so noticeably? or is the speedo fault likely to effect the ecu signal?

Also seem to have a noise from cold from the belt area which seems to go when warmed up. I have checked the belt and tensioner which appear to be fine so maybe, I have a noisy idler or pulley somewhere

got the feeling im going to be pulling it apart soon for further investigation :( any likely noisy canditiates? most noise seems to be lower down near the crank pulley.

Can't comment technically on most of what you're asking, but I can say that the speedo sensor doesn't affect the ECU running.

I have a 172 Cup (speedo sensor on the gearbox) and it's fitted with a 182 gearbox (which picks the speedo feed from its ABS rings), so the standard ECU is fed with no speedo readings.

Been like this for 18 months and 5k miles, not a hint of a problem.

you're wrong i'm afraid, it can give running problems if the sensor is there and faulty

Most ECUs will take a speedo reading. It's used to adjust idle iirc. I'm unsure how much it could affect the normal operation of the engine.

I'd say - Fix the speedo sensor. If that doesent fix the running begin to look elsewhere - lambda/MAP/clean throttle etc

I had the same problem with my cup - power would surge or drop when the speedo kicked in (or out).

Part number: 7700418919 (Speedo Sensor C2 - the one that fits on the gearbox).

Cheers chaps, shall see if the main stealer has one in stock tomorrow

Just had a look at the back of the engine and can see it has the speedo type sensor that fits in the gearbox.
