Doom 3 - a nice, bright game....

I reinstalled D3 and chucked on the expansion pack as I thought I hadn't given the game much effort the first time around. What pissed me off the most was the total darkness of it - no atmosphere, just pure annoyance.

Anyways, I set all my controls, enabled EAX 4.0 etc, etc and clicked on New Game.

Hmmmm. Oh well. Looks like I'll have to set the ATi Catalyst drivers to such higher gamma, contrast and brightness ratings that the monitor will be on the verge of burning out my retinas. WTF were id Software thinking????

I have a setting in my Nvidia panel to change brightness/contrast/gamma on all windows.. Comes in handy for playing them "dark" games..
You might have a setting too ;)

I think its too dark to actually see where you're going at all, xbox version is awful for it!

Cheers m8! :D

I've used the duct-tape mod for the torch before and set all the brightness, contrast and gamma sliders to show the game 'how it should be', imo.

Having things dark and moody is one thing - having it programmed where you can't see feck all isn't dark and moody - it's just annoying!

could also just be the way you have your monitor set that the colours arent showing right know my flatmate was playing it and he had the brightness on his monitor cranked right up. mine without even being halfway was brighter than his.

wozzaa - I've also noticed that different resolutions and V-sync enable/disable options seem to make quite a bit of difference in the default settings of most games. I had a dabble with Halo on the PC over the weekend and set it to 1024x768. Looked bright but a bit jerky. Upped it to 1280x1024 and enabled V-Sync. It did look darker, but noticably smoother.

I guess it will be a case of fiddling the settings of each individual game? I take it that you're running a TFT screen? Most things I've seen tend to be brighter on a TFT than a CRT.
